It has been my experience that the difference between a musician who can pay their rent and those who can’t is versatility. I’ve seen guys in heavy metal bands who had to work a day job, and I have met musicians who paid their bills making music because they could play The Beatles at a wedding on Thursday, country music at the honky tonk bar on Saturday, and did their heavy metal thing on Fridays.
