This is what I call not mono-compatible. Of course, the most important thing is that the bass itself doesn't disappear in mono, so this technique could be of some use.

All polarity (phase) processing do anyway, is create fake stereo. With panning and unique left and right stereo material, what's heard in stereo will not cancel out in mono. To split the signal into sub in mono and upper frequencies in stereo is to me more useful. While any material out of polarity between left and right still will cancel out in mono, they are not set up from the get go be similar and polarity switched images of each other. I think that sound like shit anyway.

I think I need a bit of help in understanding this one...

If the bass now sounds different in mono than it does in stereo, what exactly makes it 'mono-compatible'..?
