Linking Sounds With EE Liaison – Natural American English Pronunciation Lesson

In this lesson, we will look at the natural American English pronunciation of the EE vowel sound, when it is followed by words beginning with other vowels. When we pronounce these word combinations, we generally link the EE sound and the initial vowel sound of the next word using a slight Y sound. This is known as liaison in language and some English teachers like to call it linking or blending.

Here are the example sentences:
He ate an apple → He-y-ate an apple
She adds these numbers → She-y-adds these numbers
Did he arrange the schedule → Did he-y-arrange the schedule

He entered the room → He-y-entered the room
She entertained the group → She-y-entertained the group
We estimated the cost → We-y-estimated the cost

He isn’t the manager → He-y-isn’t the manager
She invested the money → She-y-invested the money
We informed them of the change → We-y-informed them of the change

He only needs one pen → He-y-only needs one pen
She opened it → She-y-opened it
We overcame a lot → We-y-overcame a lot

He understood me → He-y-understood me
She uploaded the file → She-y-uploaded the file
We uncovered the truth → We-y-uncovered the truth
