WINNER Bike of The Year 2022 | Giant Revolt Advanced Pro 0 Review

After much debate and discussion, we have finally settled on THE best road bike for 2022.

In the 14th edition of Bike of the Year, we went rogue and decided that the best road bike this year is in fact… a gravel bike. The Giant Revolt Advanced Pro 0.

A big thanks to our sponsors for helping us make this year's Bike of The Year a reality: HUUB, Lazer and 100%. The video contains product placement from our sponsors but rest assured our reviews will always remain impartial, backed up by our expert test team.

The 2022 model we put to the test is the new flagship of the range, with its revamped frameset, new lightweight gravel-specific carbon wheelset and Shimano’s criminally under-used GRX Di2 in its 2x guise.

At the heart of this Revolt is an all-new frame and fork.

While it bears more than a passing resemblance to the outgoing bike, at the heart of this Revolt is an all-new frameset.

The frame details share much of Giant’s signature design cues from the road range. The triangulated head tube to the junction of the top and down tube recalls the TCX cyclocross bike, with a bit of TCR thrown in too.

What would your road bike of the year choice be? Can a gravel bike really be our road bike winner? Voice your opinions in the comments.

I have been following the bike of the year review since 2018 and every time I get introduced to a fantastic bike, and a very well argumented decision. Well done guys and keep up the good work. Cheers everyone from Sweden!, see you on the road!

For a company’s top-end gravel bike with carbon wheels and di2, the price looks really good compared to what the others charge. Giant = value

Yeah revolt is amazing. Iam using revolt as a road bike with 32mm GP5000s and it is hands down the best road bike i have ever own.

In the past month I have gone from not knowing what a Gravel Bike is to owning a Giant Revolt Advanced. I would have never considered a pure road bike but the Revolt suits the type of riding I mainly do perfectly (mostly paved but with some gravel and dirt trails). It won't replace my mountain bike but it gets ridden more (especially coming into a Southern Hemisphere Winter).
Some would dispute it being Road Bike of the Year. Fair enough, just call it Bike of the Year.

Many thanks for the review. I have come to the conclusion that this is the perfect bike to ride all around the city (tarmac) and out of it (in the country). Unfortunately, not available in my country (Perú). A notable number of city dwellers ride a mountain bike in the city whether to go to study or to work. I am looking forward to seeing a change in the local Giant official dealers' mindset in the foresseable future and maybe they finally bring a Giant Revolt one day. Stay safe and healthy.

I recently bought a Giant Advance, but the lowest spec version. After upgrading the wheelset, I have been hugely impressed with the bike. It is much faster on the road than I was expecting, even when using 35 mm tires (albeit relatively slick Rene Herse tires). The bike was excellent value for the money. The relatively high stack makes for a comfortable ride and allows me to get in the drops for extended periods. Hugely versatile.

Thank you for the review! I agree about the road bike. I have had my Advanced 2 for about 9 months now (It is fitted with the sparkly paint/wrap/whatever it is) - I call her DISCO since she sparkles like a disco ball in the summer sun. I am running tubeless Maxxis 38 Ramblers. I find that I ride my Revolt on the road now more than I take my Kestrel RT1000. I keep up with our A-group guys on the road, averaging 17 ~ 19 mph. But then I take her on the gravel, and I am just as comfortable & secure since I ride it more often. I have been considering a dropper post for a while as I get more comfortable on the gravel, but I am not there yet. My only complaint is with the GRX front derailleur - it seems to get out of adjustment easily and usually at the wrong times so I get stuck in one ring or another. While I am riding it takes finding the right combination of front and rear gear combination to get the front to shift again. When I was shopping I tested the Cannondale Topstone Lefty 0 (the Lefty Ollie fork is just too cool), the Salsa Warbird, and a couple of others but I kept coming back to the Revolt. And I REALLY wanted to like the Cannondale more b/c of the Lefty Ollie but I refused to surrender to the stupid cool factor and went with the bike that consistently put a smile on my face. Now she feels fast on the tarmac and also safe, secure, planted, and FUN on the gravel. You just can't go wrong with this one!

Giant Revolt Advanced Pro is going to be also my choice, but maybe for 2024.

For sure it has everything I need, fast on a road, mix between endurance and sporty, good set of equipment and gravel tyre clearance. There is one drawback though, painting. One not very nice colour is a shame, comparing to e.g. Orbea that is fully customized and still affordable.

I just picked up a Revolt to replace a Defy i road for the past ten years. I put 25 mm slicks on it. Overall it’s a much more smoother ride and my average MPH is the same. I like having the option to swap out the tires and go hit the gravel.

I have a 3 year old Revolt and hands down the most fun bike I’ve ever owned!
I have a set of Oval road wheels for strictly road rides ( a little lighter an a bit more aero w 28mm conties) but the stock wheels have been great from mild single track to fast fire roads
( other bikes inc. Trek, Colnago, Specialized, BH, LeMond, other Giants; TCR & Raptor )

unless it’s a special road ride,
I grab the Revolt!
Can’t go wrong with ANY Giant bike!

Good to know it can be fitted with a dropper post. I overlooked that part of the build.

I got the previous model with 105. And it's all the bike you need.
Changed the wheels to Mavic gravel wheels set, once i brought the bike.
I don't ride my Swork Roubaix anymore. In fact I haven't been on the Sworks for over year and a half now

Giant is amazing. We been riding Giant and Liv for over 13 years and really like and enjoy the bikes. TCR Advanced Pro, Langma Pro, Revolt, and Devote. Even our smart trainer bikes are a TCR composite and an Avail composite. Gravel is so fun on a Revolt and a Devote.

My CX bike is XC bike of the year! Nonsense? Yes, it is!

Great review. Yes, I would certainly have this as my road/only bike. In fact the Revolt has been on my shortlist for a while - just trying to get one has now been made much harder!!! 😉

Many are saying this bike can do pretty much everything you throw at it (quick on the road and great off road). If you were to own one bike to do it all... many say this is it! For someone that would be doing 70% road/30% gravel and is sized very much between the M/ML frame sizes, would you recommend the M/L for the more road focused riding? Keep up the great work!
