Open borders is absurd. Countries have a right to know who they let in. Bernie Sanders has the right idea.

It makes no sense in terms of security. Reform immigration, don’t just dismantle all borders. That’s the equivalent of throwing the sink out with the water. Reform the system, abandoning it would lead to an influx of immigrants we couldn’t care for, especially if we adopted many of the programs we need, we can’t just be a place for all of the world’s poverty. It’s unsustainable for any one nation to take on that burden

People need to educate themselves. There are many organizations promoting this idea, but it's never in the media. Do your research! Open Borders is not the end of the world! My position is to open the borders and legalize drugs. This would put the cartels out of business and of course we need to invest in prevention & recovery programs for addicts.

The United States has a responsibility to care for US citizens. Not citizens of other countries.

And if all of the socially-aware and able-bodied people of the “Global South” come to America, that entire hemisphere isn’t going to improve. It’s just going to get worse because instead of improving their own countries, people are fleeing to greener pastures in the US, and those who remain behind, according to progressives, need to benefit from the generosity of Western nations, rather than stand on their own two feet.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing progressives to adopt the White Man’s Burden.

The US had open borders for much of its history, up until the 1920s, and still thereafter for many countries until 1965. The so-called "immigration crisis" didn't start until _after_ undocumented immigration became illegal in 1965, but that didn't stop millions of poor people from fleeing to the US. The issue here is not borders, the issue is that the US through harmful trade agreements and supporting right-wing governments in Latin America has destroyed any possibility of a decent life for them, thus they come here. Why is that surprising? The crisis is not a lack of border security or even immigration, it's neocolonialism.

There is no case for open borders. You need to have the option of denying entry to someone who is a danger or even someone who will just be a parasite on the economy.

It likely would lead to the average increase in quality of life but nobody would be able to afford a first world life anymore.

Jesus Christ this is a very unpopular opinion. I gotta say no to open borders. Yes to comprehensive immigration reform.

open borders is fine by me. i see very few good arguments against open borders. there's no crime in fleeing from socialism & unrest.

You’re not for wages and good, sustainable social programs if youre for open borders and outsourcing. Choose wisely

Unrestricted access? People, goods, just come and go across the geographical borders with no oversight? One, that doesn’t make any economic sense, two it doesn’t make any security sense, and three the notion on its face is patently flawed. This is just like the Pro-Choice v Pro-Life debate; the moment you use the idiot’s terms you’ve lost the argument. Don’t cede them any ground by pretending it’s a question of “open borders”, you do more damage to the debate by using the term.

Cmon guys; this is base level rhetorical technique.

How about no borders at all? That would be my preference.
