Nice project but to anybody actually considering this: don't just use nails.

Add some Titebond III or similar wood glue that is made to withstand water and the elements, especially if you live in a rainy place.

Also make sure you understand how humid your area is. If it's very humid you might want to be cautious of just using nails or you may find the project coming apart or having extremely noticeable gaps. Also since the wood is going to be outside you should let it sit in a garage or covered and outdoors so it can acclimate with the weather.

For this project, I'd rather get some cheap cedar fence pickets since cedar is very good against the elements and also extremely cheap compared to this pre-primed wood. Also I'd recommend just using a sealer on the raw cedar to bring out the color and grain and protect it from the elements and ensuring the wood doesn't yellow or weather from the sun and then get ugly and moldy from rain.

But definitely don't just put this together with nails and if you do, please at least give the wood a chance to acclimate. This won't be withstanding much weight so you really don't need to use screws you just need to use something to withstand the change in humidity.

My mail lady would love to put mail in that box after dodging all the paper wasps.

You will be rebuilding it soon having failed to use pressure treated wood.

great idea but the problem I am having is my shovel is having a hard time digging up the concrete sidewalk. Do I have a defective shovel?

If you cut it the wood bugs can eat it, so is the preprimed bug proofed?

That a bad idea for me. If I do one of those in my house then the bees would be all around it and probably some wasps. I would feel bad for the mail man because he won't be able to deliver my mail.

Thank you for not telling us which season and which episode. I Hate when they call it a how to when it is not.

Cutting the 4x4 post was hilarious, great idea tho and how-to for the most part. Thanks

It’s really not a bad idea but pressure treated at the base would’ve been longer term. My beef with it is why they didn’t use the valuable space below the mail box for larger packages?!!! It was perfect space for most packages/boxes to fit inside behind a simple door. If you bury any size post not pretreated then you have to use durable paint or even leftover oil, water proof adhesives are used to wrap posts by farmers often but you can’t just leave primed and bare wood exposed to water, soil and bugs without having to replace the structure sooner than later

Looks like perfect place for stinging wasp to build nest

They must live in a place with no wasps or mud daubers. Silly build.

Sorry you dropped the ball on this one.... I could understand if there was a slot below it for large packages but it's just big for no reason...

I quit being on the Lowe's advisory panel as they never took my advice. I watched them put their hair-brained ideas in place in the stores. They all failed. To put a useless build video up shows they still don't get it.

I love how they build this with tiny brad nails that will come apart in 6 months. It's like watching a DIY show that is all about cosmetics and tv ratings...complete garbage!

Looks so easy in the real world it will cost u a fortune for the money wasted @ hm depot believing u could complete this simple project on ur own and then in the end hiring a contractor....
