What is it?
Lots of McLarens look kinda similar
They all have alpha numeric names
So they can be confusing
This 570 is the entry point
The sport series
600s are super series
But so is the 720 etc
And then the ultimate cars
Like the P1 and Senna, etc
Competition
Kind of Audi R8
Kind of 911 Turbo, maybe GT3
This has carbon tub
Weighs ~3300 lbs
Couple hundred lbs less than R8
A little more than GT3
A little less than Turbo
Engine
Engine compartment doesn’t actually open
Little button and compartment for oil and coolant
Same 3.8 TT V8 as the P1 and 650s
562 hp
443 lbft
Performance
Not HUGE power numbers by today’s standards
But 0-60 in 3 seconds
Remember this is the ENTRY level car
Also does over 200 mph
All the suspension is aluminum
Carbon ceramic brakes
eAdaptive dampers
Looks/Special
Unlike the R8 and unlike the porsche
You NEVER see these things
And it’s SPECIAL
Even with this boring black on black spec
People get so excited about it
AND THE DOORs go up
That’s supercar stuff
Doors
Speaking of doors
They go up
Multi paneled
Two buttons on there
Tow away mode
Engine release
HUGE sill to step over
Digi door handle inside
Mechanical failsafe behind door
Lights
McLaren logos
Wheels
These are obviously aftermarket
$12000 3 piece wheels
Storage
Reasonable size frunk
No green escape PULL, but button
NO glovebox
TINY cupholder
Skinny center console
Door panel storage
Big parcel shelf behind you
Seats
Manual
Heated?
Tech
Very high tech for the time but early beta-era stuff
Full digital cluster allows you to do a lot
You have nose lift on the same stalk as the cluster stuff
Center screen is OK…
Bowers and Wilkins Audio
When you turn the car off it’ll tell you how many days it can sit
Cuz this is probably your 9th car
Controls
The stalks feel uniquely McLaren
The center console buttons
Can’t change mode until you hit activate
Launch mode
Right next to start/stop lol
Push button gear selector…like a Honda…or Maserati lol
PADDLE SHIFTERS are so cool
One single rocker so they shift both ways
The Top
This is the Spider, which adds some weight
But the top is quick
And with the top on it’s like legit nice and quiet

Special thanks to our Patreons for their support of the channel! 570s, 488, or R8?

I owned a 570s spider for a few years. You were doing what everyone who I let drive my car would do, shift early. You were shifting so quick, one after another. The engine likes revs, 8300rpm redline. You were probably shifting close to 5k rpm and leaving so much on the table. I get it’s not your car to rev out, but there is so much more power there. You miss part of the experience imho.

6:50 LOL. I just did the math and my McLaren 570 is literally the 9th of the 11 cars I currently own. 😂😂 And yes, my 570 came with the same battery tender from the dealer.

Wow! This is a well-done review. Thank you so much. You do a great job highlighting features of the car and explaining the experience. I just filmed a rushed Alfa Romeo Gulia review and watching yours I can see how much I missed in sharing the details of the experience of that car by filming just an hour before the rental was due back.

Lot's to like about the McLaren's. The wing doors the uinique body htere are a few questions I have---do they still make their own engines as of 2024? Land rover/Range Rover uses BMW engines and Aston Marstin---Mercedes engines. A <downer< for me...not sure i can get past that spending that much money...might a well buy a BMW or Benz....a much a i like the Aston Martin because they were Bond cars...

ALso...how reliable are McLarens??? English cars are notorious for being iffy...don't know if that's changed at all....shrug...

In 2025, the fun per purchase cost ($120k-$150k range) seems to be the best compared to the other cars in a similar price range: R8, Acura NC1 NSX and Porsche 991.1 Turbo S and 991.1 GT3.

The only detractors I see are the insurance is 3x more than a 991.1 Turbo S, and the maintenance seems difficult to DIY and repairs seem expensive.

It is more edgy, track driving seems more engaging/versatile (not just point and shoot) and maybe that offsets the higher ownership cost?

That battery reminder is inaccurate. Keep the battery tender plugged in or else your cars electronics will get wonky..

So you can drive it as an automatic too?
