Pedagogy of the Oppressed: Chapter 1 Summary| Paulo Freire| Critical pedagogy
In this lecture I provide a brief summary of chapter 1 in my series on Paulo Freire's "Pedagogy of the Oppressed." I recommend reading the book along with these videos conversations, especially if you are interested in critical pedagogy and want to understand the difference between the banking system/ model of education and the problem posing or problem solving method of education.

Thank you so much Dr. Raja, your videos are giving me very important insights, not only for my work as a teacher, artist and activist, but also to look at the current situation in Palestine, and the geopolitical power dynamics. I love the sensitivity and care with which you communicate these ideas.

This is brilliant. Humanising the oppressor is the only way for ensuring real change

thank you so much for this video, you explained chapter one perfectly, I wasn't really getting it because Freire's writing is so thick but you simplified it thank you.

Thank you Dr Raja, I'm so pleased I came across Paulo Freire.
Your lecture has simplified Chap 1 adding and giving this whole subject matter even more
than I thought was possible. I Thank you (and Paulo of course) for carrying the mantle and
helping newcomers like me to learn more in depth education on this very humane but essential
work on the Pedagogy of the Oppressed🙏

Chapter 1 definitely applies to our lives as teachers and students. We still have yet to realize our humanity. We still currently reside in that top-down manner where the second-hand garments of the oppressors are passed on to the oppressed. We still utilize a pedagogy FOR the oppressed rather than a pedagogy OF the oppressed.

Yes, I definitely think some university lecturerers need to read this book. One size does not fit all, engagement is a key factor in teaching which is missing in institutes designed for middle class students.

Thank you so much for this, I read the whole chapter 1 but you just made it easier to understand by breakdown the concept. Just like you said, this made me reflect on what is happening in our country. How people (oppressed) are fighting each other for the name of the politicians (oppressors), as the election is near.
