We were looking at buying a new Camaro and the dealership had a $2000 charge on the invoice for a ceramic coating. They would not remove that fee as apparently the coating was already applied to the vehicle. We walked away and I likely won't be buying any future vehicles from that dealership.

If you need GAP insurance, you can't afford the car. Put 20% down on your purchase if you finance and your need for GAP evaporates. If you INSIST on buying cars you can't afford, call an insurance company to buy GAP. Nationwide sells it for $7 a month where I live.

I love when the paint protection is already on the invoice when you buy the car. I always tell them to remove it, as I never asked for it. Same goes for anything else but the car itself!

When I bought my MX5, the dealer had applied paint protection and nitrogen inflated tires. I told them to buff off the paint protection and room air is 78% nitrogen

I just bought a new car (at MSRP!) but the dealer wanted $199 for the Nitrogen Fill Package. I told them to let the nitrogen out of the tires then fill them back up with air and take the $199 off. They said they couldn't do that. I said that if they wanted to sell this car to me today they could. The SM chuckled and took it off the menu.

You can’t even trust them to put the right oil in the car when they service it!

I treat car salespeople with great respect until I catch them in a lie, then I treat them on the far other end of the spectrum. Our relationships always get off to a great start then last about 8.2 minutes until that first lie is spewed.

When I asked if an addon HAD to be purchased, the finance manager said "It's already on the car, we can't take it off". I walked out of the dealership. One of my best decisions.

Also, don't make the same mistake I made when I first leased a car: The finance manager told me that I HAD to buy a protection package (painting, wheel? don't remember) in order to get my lease approved. Fast forward 3 years, got a new lease from a different dealership where I answered NO to any stuff the finance manager tried to sell me.

dealer quoted me $1000 for a rim insurance package. I can get all 4 rims restored and refinished for $350 in 4 days. (dropping off the car at shop). I've also bought used rims in A+ condition for 2 different cars now. Under $200 shipped from ebay.

You should have seen the quote I got to build out a new Colorado ZR2. They put "paradigm theft deterrent" for $899, "nano forcefield" for $999, and "nitro fill" for $89.50. They had an initial $2, 000 dollar discount. Guess where it all went? Those options. The worst offender was when they put their offer for my trade at 21.5k when the KBB cash offer was 29.4k on the thing. I just don't think they wanted to do business with me because the salesman dropped off the face of the Earth when I challenged them on it. They were going to remove the star trek protections at least though because I think they were hoping to rob me on my trade.

I just bought a car and the dealership said it was REQUIRED BY LAW to get a VIN etching on my glass, so I paid not knowing any better. I looked it up after and this is not the case, such a scam and a waste of 200$!!!

I would pay you to go with me to the dealership for my car. Great stuff, but I can’t remember everything when needed.

Mike, my dad got screwed over with gap. Since he explained what happened, I no longer get it. Had something to do with what he owed was way more than the value of the car. To the point that gap didn’t cover $500 difference. My dad kept making payments until it was done.

for the tire and wheel damage thing if you live somewhere with fairly bad streets or drive with low profile tires just get insurance on your rims and tires it costs very little and u can always get it replaced ez

Our dealership sells a vehicle monitoring system that connects to your phone but not those "theft" systems. We frequently tell people those theft systems are rip offs.

With all the cars I have bought I have two absolutes; A. I make sure the salesperson who greets me gets the sales credit BUT I ask to speak and negotiate with the manager (on the floor) directly and then can talk price, holdbacks, interest rate I come in with, etc. directly. B. I let them know UPFRONT I will not buy any of these "products" that are foisted upon you when you deal with the paperwork after agreeing on the price before signing. Both of these have saved me, and the dealership a lot of time and frustration.

I am rent cars until I find a vehicle that I like, I asked my insurance to sign me up for gap insurance for a potential car lease and was told Gieco doesn't sell GAP. Insurance.
That surprised me because they wanted to nickel and dime me for for tons of other coverage. 😅

What about extended warranties especially since new cars are basically a computer on wheels and labor rates are soaring?

Or you can go to batteries Plus. They also have key replacements. The condition is that they do the programming. If you hem and haw a little bit they will reduce the price. Paid 125 to replace a Malibu key with programming.
