Great work as always mate. I need to try more weathering techniques myself so thanks for the tips.

"... the real world object hasn't been painted to look amazing... the real world object just happens to exist..." Happens to exist?! Do you have any idea how long it took me to paint all that random crap in Chernobyl? I got through half a million gallons of chipping medium; and now I glow in the dark! Though, I've got to say, you did a good job on the Ambot.

I've never tried weathering, adding to my hobby goals this year. Thanks for the great tutorial. An intense result, but for me, it also conveys a lot of history

The result you achieved is so brilliantly over the top -- it's gorgeous!

Man this thing turned out great. Just started really getting into chipping medium and powders. Play a lot of post apocalyptic games, so old, beat up, and rusted is the name of the game for terrain, vehicles, and robots.

Cheers Dave and this is the technique I shall adopt for semi-destroyed vehicles in a desert camouflage that have lain undisturbed for years, then found by accident as Space Wolves interdict the ground scape around them.

Thanks Dave, I look forward to trying this on my own Ambot

Feel you with that airbrush. As someone with Parkinsons, I just couldn't paint so any acceptable standard because of shaking like a shitting dog. Its still difficult but with an airbrush, sponges and various other techniques for helping with detail (mainly magnitising the mini down and using both hands I can paint to a fairly good standard. A bit of determination involved as it seems you have too but I'd like to think people couldn't tell I'm disabled based on my painting and are usually shocked when I explain to them.

Great videos Dave! Loving gp8ng through them now I've found your channel. Looking forward to new year

I haven't used chipping medium, but rather hairspray, with a rattlecan and it works, kind of. I think it sets too hard or something, wetting it with a brush does next to nothing and I found going at it really hard with a cocktail stick was the only way to get it off. A bit of work though and if you're not careful the layers under the chipping layer can get scratched off. I've found brush on paint to work fine (I don't have an airbrush yet :D Mostly because of space and the fact my work iMac is sitting on my workbench and I don't think they'd appreciate the mess I'm likely to make...). End result is great on the Ambot ;)

I'm sure someones said this before - but from my experience metalic paints dont like white basecoat at all. Think that might have been the issue you where asking about : 4:45.
keep up the great work.

This makes me think of the game Gaslands. Most epic game and my family loves it. Essentially, modify a hot wheels car to be post apocalyptic. It’s ridiculousy fun to do. Obviously I can’t send pics on YouTube but, I’ve got some really cool custom builds

This Ambot is like a cheat sheet of all the weathering techniques I've slowly learned over the past five years, wish I'd seen this ages ago! Great, janky, rusty bot.

Nice work mate, looks great. I love me some scale model weathering techniques ! An enamel filter can be a real nice effect over the white after the chipping step. Its a really subtle way to change the tone in a few places. Enjoyed the vid and looking forward to the next one mate

Loving it as ever, I learn a lot from these videos. Gonna save my pennies for an airbrush, I’m convinced. Any plans to bring back the puppet?
