1966 Hammarlund HQ-180A communications receiver test

I replaced the electrolytic caps but I think it has bad caps in the IF cans.

@force311999 No, actually some models had a small telechron clock with hands like on a clock radio. It would have mounted in the upper left corner.

@quantumbits I was thinking maybe I could but I don't think I can raise the transformer up enough from the chassis to un-pry the cover even if the fastening clip is removed. Sometimes I have been able to do that if there is enough length on the wires going to it but these ones have a lot of components like resistors soldered to the IF can terminals.

@AllAmericanFiveRadio Hopefully I won't...I removed the first IF can from the chassis and tested it by connecting its output to a table radio. The first IF can has real mica caps soldered inside. I'll try and upload a video soon of the test. I know there are some of the cans which look different from the others so hopefully these are the bad ones. Some of the cans only have one coil/cap inside which should make it easier.

the radio is in excellent condition for its age, looks like its been in the air conditioning all its life. Well, if the IF cans are bad its in the right hands to get fixed.

Nice old set, It's funny how you come across bad IF Can Caps, with My radios, I have never had that problem

I had a good hq180 and it had the clock and s meter and name below the dials.
This one is a wierd model. The 180 is a teriffic radio. Extremely sensitive and selective radio.

Can you leave the IF transformers soldered in place and just unbolt and pry off the shields?
