Host Frederic Colier interviews author, Karl Ove Knausgaard just prior to the release of the first volume of "My Struggle," his six-volume opus. Interview was taped at the Brooklyn Book Fest during Summer 2012. This is full interview. Prior, we had only released an abridged version. Unless proven otherwise, Books du Jour was first to introduce Karl to US TV audience.

I am now reading Book 4 and I don't know what it is about these books, but it is impossible to stop reading them. He has a way about his writing that you would wonder...how can one person write so much about one life. As a friend of his in the second or third book said to him (paraphrasing a bit here) "Karl Ove, you could write 20 pages about one trip to the bathroom!". They are not really "me" books, they cover everything that is going on around him, descriptions of the people around him, the weather, the landscape, etc. I'm hooked. May he keep on churning them out.

Just recently discovered the author; totally smitten. Halfway through Book 2 and eagerly await the others. Thanks for a great interview!

There is an easy rapport between interviewer and author here, and I love the variety of questions, including "Are you that interesting?" Karl Ove Knausgaard is very upfront about his compulsion to explore his Self (capital intended on my end). In person he is kind and approachable--very pleasant, unpretentious and straightforward--and on the page he is such a mix of intimate and remote. I've never seen that mixture before in those proportions. He fascinates. I am really moved by his writing even if in passages I find myself wanting him to push his craft further instead of merely coaxing meaning from a mass of quotidian detail stretched as far is it can be stretched. Yet the books live! This is life! He is a rewarding author.

I am just now finishing his second volume of My Struggle.   Of course I will read the third.   He has a fascinating writing style....it is a must read.  So happy to see him in discuss his work.

Is just me, or the host has no idea about the book but keeps being quite aggressive?
