Let me add one more: a foreign news reporter, which is my current job. I am learning Italian, and have basic Spanish knowledge, which are obviously both Indo-European languages. Sometimes I have to translate short sentences (aka soundbites) from foreign languages to my mother tongue. Knowledge in foreign languages helps me a lot. I could even guess the general idea of Portuguese, another Indo-European language, soundbites by comparing the pronunciation of certain words with their Italian and Spanish counterparts (with a little help in English). Yes, learning foreign languages enables you to do something seemingly impossible.

Hey there! Your video came to my attention when I was checking out the videos of "The Language Worker" here on YouTube!

Hey thanks for these tips! I like that there are some new and more nuanced options here. I often find myself asking what jobs can language learners do? and get frustrated when most answers i get back are teacher/tutor/diplomat.

So I'm about to do my last year of school (sixth form) in the uk. I take French, chemistry and biology A levels. My plan is to take a gap year in France so I fan perfect my French and then apply for university doing a joint honours in French and chinese. If and when I finish I'm thinking about either getting a job or maybe doing a masters in something like international relations. Do you think this would be a good idea with many career options, I'm worried about competition with native speakers who speak english

Hi, I am a Japanese/ English interpreter and am interested in possibly becoming a bilingual copywriter. But I have no idea where to start. Would you be willing to talk to me about your experience as a copywriter? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

don't try to become a copywriter OR ANY kind of digital marketer if you aren't a native speaker of ENGLISH, you are always going to be struggling to compete with NES.
