The winners of the Diversity Visa lottery are chosen at random by a computer program, with a certain number of visas allocated to each region of the world and no one country receiving more than 7 percent of the Diversity Visas available in any given year.

Although the exact dates vary, people who have entered the Diversity Visa lottery can check the status of their application beginning in early May the year following their application, by using the Entrant Status Check link on the Diversity Visa webpage. This is why it’s so important to save that confirmation number: Without it, you won’t be able to see if you’ve been selected or not.

The chance to win the visa lottery is 0.07 % but there is always the chance to win it, I participated in the American diversity lottery in 2015 for the first time and I won . Wow! I gues am sooo lucky, I won 2010 lottery... I wasnt expect that, I didnt believed on that. I wasnt even plan to move to America, infact somebody offer to fillin the application for me, since I didnt want to participate. But thank God he has plan for me, I got Now I live in US.

Each country per region has a 7% limit.
Within each region, the visas are not allocated among individual countries. All applicants from the same region are selected randomly as a whole, for the number of visas allocated for that region, but with the limitation that no single country may receive more than 7% of the total diversity visas (3, 500).

What if in African the machine chooses only from one country? I think they still sub divide the regions in to countries to enable balance of selection
