Recently I bought a cheap 2000 Toyota Echo, otherwise known as a Yaris, cheap off of Facebook Marketplace. It turned out to be absolutely filthy inside! Was it worth the $1,500 AUD ($980 USD)? Can this tiny hatchback be a good car for everyday driving? Let's find out :) #toyota #car #opera

I would also do a cabin air filter after looking at that interior. Its behind the glovebox and really easy to replace

Apprentice Toyota mechanic here, definitely a well done job there, just letting you know I’d definitely recommend replacing the Cabin Air Filter. Judging by the original state of the interior, the filter would look the same. It’s just behind the glovebox where you remove a plastic cover held in by 1 or 2 clips, super easy to do and better air quality :)

It's heartwarming seeing that little Toyota come back to life. It's clear that it had been neglected for a while; I'm pleasantly surprised that it's still in that good of shape mechanically, all things considered. Toyotas are really something else.

If you turn you 5L bottles sideways the fluid will flow out in a smooth stream, rather than glugging out as it does when you tip it in held upright. Makes a big difference and is much easier to pour also.

You could probably rent an upholstery cleaner from your local hardware store to see if you can get the seats and carpets a bit more presentable. The pattern looks fun so it would be a bit of a shame to cover them.

crazy how much of a difference you made with the car's interior with a simple cleaning, makes you wonder how low the standards were for the previous owners. Congrats on your attempt on bringing this car another life, please wear gloves though

I always enjoy these maintenance/restoration videos, be it computers or cars. Would have loved to see you defogging the front lights.

this car holds a special place in my heart as it was my uncles and he drove me and my sister around when we were kids, it had custom leather seats and is still working to this day

An extraxtor vacuum will do wonders for those seats. Isn't too expensive, and will help immensely.

Some hints to people who got inspiration from this video:

First of all, never spray any sort of cleaner straight to the area you are going to clean if you are not it's compatible. Spray it onto rag/cloth and test it in somewhere inconspicuous spot near the area. I have seen automotive interior cleaning stuff melt rubber coated buttons, smearing printed text and even causing color from the cloth to transfer into seat upholstery.

Second thing. Use gloves when ever you are working with dirty oil, that stuff is really nasty on skin and it can cause rash on some people. Oil from diesel engine is even nastier... Safety goggles are also good thing to have when working with liquids under the car, or anything mechanical when there is risk of stuff flying around you.

How about cabin air filter?

My mom got one of these Yaris’ in 2000 and it lasted her 13 years without problems. Toyota’s are such great cars

I'm watching you from Tanzania🇹🇿 Africa, where we love toyotas due to their endurance & cost of ownership. Please keep making videos of this little toyota vitz as i plan to buy one for my daily drive

This is a nice video and good work on this car whilst keeping costs down. One thing that is cheap and easy is polishing the head lights, which was perhaps done, but not shown in the video.

This is such a perfect example of never judge a book by its cover as this little car, from what I can see and hear, is both mechanically and structurally in excellent order after you guys did all that work. So nice to see folks fixing and keeping these little cars going. :D

I love seeing these car videos; I really like maintaining older things (both cars and computers) so seeing both on your channel is really cool! 😎

I've got the same car (well, its one of my two). Honestly, its a reliable little runabout - and no matter how badly I treat it, I can't kill it - it just won't die. I've had it since about 2011 and its starting to show some problems - for example, the window regulators sometimes get stuck, and the boot latch sometimes doesn't work - but mechanically, its A1 - to the point that my local mechanic asked me if I was ever interested in selling. I said no. Its just too reliable to get rid of.

Love this automotive content so much! It was called the echo here in Canada as well, though we got the 1.5 litre version. The generation after became the Yaris here and both are very popular for deliveries as well!
