A week ago, my beautiful mom of 80 years went home to Jesus. She had dementia and although it hadn't progressed to where she didn't know us at all, it was just getting to that point. The last time I visited her she asked who I was and when I told her, then she would remember. She prayed she would never get to the point of not knowing and my sisters and I prayed that Jesus would just take her home. She had pre-planned much of her funeral and her most fervent request was that it be a message of hope and salvation. As she laid on her deathbed for 2 days, we continued to tell her it was okay. She could go home now and we'd be fine. We talked about her seeing her other loved ones, but still she remained with us. The last 12 hours or so, she just stared, not closing her eyes. She would startled sometimes when there was a louder noise, so we knew she could still hear us. My oldest sister had been sitting closest to her and holding her hand and asked me if I wanted to for a while. As I moved and took her hand, different words just flowed from my mouth. You see, I had just been praying that the Lord would please help us to know how to let her go and to please take her and not let her linger anymore. As I sat down, I believe the Lord spoke through me and I said, "Mom. Jesus is right here with me. He says He is here to take you home and you need to come now. He said He will take care of us, but He is waiting for you." My mom firmly squeezed my hand and turned and looked straight at me, as if to say, "I hear you and I'm going now." A few breaths later, Jesus took her home. It was such a bitter sweet answer to prayer. I was so joyful she was now with Jesus, and so sad we would no longer see her until He called us home as well.

Her funeral was beautiful and as she wanted, it was a message of the salvation, love and hope of our Lord Jesus Christ. I wish I would have remembered this song as it speaks so strongly to my heart of what happened that evening. Carrie Underwood has such a beautiful voice and there could never be a more beautiful message - Jesus is waiting to take those of us who have accepted his pardon to take us home.
