One of the main contenders to lead the UK's third largest political party is hospitalised after allegedly being punched in the face by a European parliamentarian.

Steven Woolfe, of the UK Independence party (UKIP), suffered bleeding on the brain after hitting his head after being cold-cocked.

The incident highlighted the party’s problems after helping win the public's backing for the UK to leave the European Union.

Al Jazeera’s Laurence Lee reports from London.

Can we just shut down the unnecessary EU Offices in Strasberg already? What another massive waste of money!
