Thank you for Everyone who Voted for this and helped it to succeed. I believe the bulk of the credit for this video should go to Lars for his amazing music composing. His songs are always such that I dont even need to think, the video just flows from the music. Thanks to sarcasmosaur for the awesome vested medic, and a secret thanks to Norpoify, who posted up the DMX for his short "Patient" which served as the original file basis for this video ( though extremely modified and torn apart). I'd also like to take a second to tip my hat to Soimon , with his entry "story of a sentry". I believe that a video only needs to do one thing well to succeed, and in my opinion, his amazing characterization of the sentry outshines any single element in my video. Give him some love and respect, that guy has fantastic instincts and I think he deserved to win too. you can check out his entry here.

DRAMA entry for Saxxies 2012.

One of the top complaints I've gotten about the piece, is the little bit of violence at the end being too cartoony, which I agree with, but the way it is now just has a special place in my heart, and I couldnt bear to change it.

Anyone who has lost a pet will probably feel this on a pretty serious level.

If  watch carefully, after the Medic loads the syringe with the bad medicine he places the nearly full jar next to two other jars that almost empty. Based on that observation, this was not the first drug trip that the Medic took to reunite with his beloved pet. However, this drug trip quickly turns into a bad one.

My interpretation is that  this drug induced encounter with Death is the last drug trip the Medic ever takes since the Medic has finally accepted his pet's passing.

This is like a classic of Team Fortress 2 Drama. I find myself constantly coming back to rewatch this. And I love it.

I discovered this when I was 12 or so. I'm 20 now and just revisited it for the first time in years. To me, it's an icon of a simpler point in my life when creators like Jerma and Star_, VenturianTale, and Stampylonghead were my go-to's for entertainment after school. It (and your other portal themed videos) was one of the first fan-made SFM movies I ever saw and introduced me to the weird and wonderful world of Gmod/SFM machinimas. I love this video so much and hope I can revisit it for many more years to come.

Before I knew this video existed,
I had adopted a dying baby chicken, as a Medic fan, I named him Archimedes.
It was flooding outside, his mother had stepped on him and left him to drown, I saw two little feet sticking up from the mud, and I ran out and saved him.

Archimedes came to me by fate, in a time when I had no one, he didn't have anyone either. I took him in, and he became my best friend..
5 months pass, he'd never fully recovered from the event. He didn't want to socialize or leave my side.
He was surviving, but he was so depressed. He just wanted to sleep on me.

Last day,
He looked up at me, he had such big dark brown beautiful eyes, unlike any chicken I've seen, and just looked into mine, and he looked so sad.

I realized, he'd been holding onto life for me, and how damn selfish I'd been.

I held him under my chin (his favorite spot) and told him
"You don't have to stay.."
He died in his sleep five minutes later, but those last five minutes he spent peeping quietly, nuzzling under my chin.

So now on shuffle, this video pops up, and brought back the memory of how badly I wanted to keep Archimedes with me, and the pain of accepting I had to let him go.

The feeling of utter loss after one loses a companion, man or beast is unreal. This is beautifully done

I believe what's going on is that the Medic is grieving over his lost friend. To escape the reality of their death, Medic uses drugs to escape the truth. But the memory comes back and the Medic is spilt into two. One Medic wants to enslave the memory and grieve over their friends death forever, the other wants to let go of the friend and enjoy the times they had. This clash results in the "evil" side taking the friend, displaying that medic can't let go over the death. He then tries to attack the "evil" side of him to free the memory, which is Medic trying to move on. But then the "evil" side grabbing Medic and about to drop him down a clif, this cliff is depression and Medic is about to go into depression over the death. Then the thought of his friend and the good times comes back to prevent this. After killing the idea of enslaving the memory, Medic then enjoys the time with his friend and let's him go.

I've seen this SFM so many times and I've just now noticed that when Archimedes brings the Medic back the amputator, the rain in the background freezes. And once he kills the reaper, the rain returns to normal before disappearing entirely. Amazing attention to detail.

i used to watch this all the time as a kid and i thought it was really sad
as an adult it is amazing honestly a lot of the 'older' sfm and gmod pieces for tf2 are so well done, the lighting and poses, all the scenes are so good

Many of commentators tell their stories about losing their pets, that's sad. My story is not about a pet, but a man of my family, who, i believing, saved me. 2 years ago i almost died in hospital in coma, in these days my grandfather passed away. In this damn night, then he passed away, i came back. (sorry for bad English) And this animation has shown the feeling i felt in a hour they telled this story to me.
