Even after this, I still don’t understand how he got injured. It did not look brutal in real time. But he is 54, so. Hope he has a speedy recovery.

As a lip reader, I'm impressed that Coach Finch is so tolerant of pain that even as he collapses, he's telling Conley and his staff that he has fudge. That's really nice of him to remind them about the treats he brought before they carry him off.

Wow, this is definitely a significant injury. Crazy how it happened too.

I had a complete rupture my patella tendon in December, surgery in January…it’s the most difficult recovery I’ve experienced. Still braced, PT 3 days a week. It happened in an instance. Thank you for your description of the injury. Prayers up!

Honestly baffles me that they couldn't get him a wheelchair..

This sucks. Three years ago at age 42, I ruptured my patellar tendon (and tore two retinaculum) playing hoops. Outside of going to physical therapy, I didn't leave the bed for months. Thankfully, I was writing my dissertation at the time and working virtually so I didn't have to leave the house to show up for work. I'm not sure how he's going to be able to coach, travel, etc. during his recovery period. I feel terrible for him. As always, thanks for the great analysis, Doc.

Wow, that is a really unusual injury.

I can tell you that’s gonna be really painful and tough rehab — I had the ACL reconstruction that uses the patellar tendon graft—and by far that was the most painful aspect of the surgery and rehab. The postop pain was really bad— and I have had several operations. That one was the worst by a lot.

I always felt the sidelines are too narrow hence unsafe for fans, coaches and players. It’s advisable to wear some kind of protective gear that prevent these injuries.Wish him a quick recovery

I tore mine in 2018 stumbling down my stairs. I had the surgery the next day. Was in a brace for 2 weeks followed by 6 months of PT. I'm ok now, but I can't ever get on that knee since the repaired tendon protrudes slightly above my kneecap.

He was so unlucky, I ruptured mine going for a putback dunk and tore my quads off the bone when I tried to stand up - that recovery and rehab was 7 months of agony

has this EVER happened in the NBA before or is this the first time? A player to injure a coach

I ruptured my left patella tendon about 8 years ago. I had surgery, was in a cast for 2 months, and used a brace for another two months until I felt fully comfortable. Luckily, he can rehab where it works. Quad exercises, hip flexibility and static stretching. Good luck, Coach. Thanks again, Doc.

Thank god that Minnesota has the best doctors in the country and some of the best medical facilities in the world. Hoping for a quick-ish recovery from Finch and hope the boys go show out against Denver for their coach!
