Oh good. I'm in the middle of Slade House and it's my first Mitchell and I'm really enjoying it! So I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it. I definitely need to read the Bone Clocks

LOOK AT HOW CLOSE YOU ARE TO 1K SUBS!! It's a shame you didn't love American Gods. I really want to read some Gaiman soon but he's written so much that it's difficult to know where to start! Will probably love some of his work and feel 'meh' about other pieces.

Totally agree with your thoughts on The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. It's such a lovely children's tale and the religious aspects aren't an issue. I always feel nostalgic when I read it, the film was always my go-to when I was a little 'un. I used to love snuggling up with blankets and hot chocolate to watch it!

p.s. your shirt is rad

Great to see you back. :) It was interesting to hear your thoughts on American Gods. I keep meaning to pick it up, but I really don't know if it'll be my cup of tea and I'm pretty sure I'll be the same as you with it. If it's that long, it really does have to pack a punch. I'll get to it one day. :P

I got 50 pages into American Gods before quitting, I guess I made the right choice. I need to read another Ned Beauman, I loved The Teleportation Accident.

Totally agree with you on American Gods, I really loved it but it was way too long and it could have been cleaner.
The only David Mitchell I've read was Cloud Atlas and I really did not like - I want to read Bone Clocks and Slade House, though. They sound much more like me.
Although I don't like the religious references in The Chronicles of Narnia, I think The series is totally delightful and it will forever be one of my favorites.

the Bone Clocks has been on my TBR for ages and you've made me want to read it even more. I've seen it in the library so maybe it'll be there when I next go. 6 subscribers to go...

Don't skip The Horse and His Boy, it's one of my favorites (it does feel like a bit of the odd one out in the series because the main characters are not from our world though). It's about a slave boy escaping to Narnia with a talking horse. (It is the next chronologically but it was the fifth one published, so you don't have to read it next)

Sad to hear that you didn't enjoy American Gods, I was looking forward to reading it. Although, the more reviews I read the more I discover that your opinion seems to be one shared by most, could have been half the length. A shame.

I think reading the Narnia series in full is the best way to get a full understanding of character depth, however you could just skip to Prince Caspian and you will be back with the characters you have been introduced to in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Shame you didn't like the second half of American Gods. The Ocean at the End of the Lane is a much shorter story by Gaiman which you might enjoy. In my opinion, The Horse and His Boy is one of the best books in the series but you could get away with skipping it if you wanted.
