Machines don't need to be paid, complain about work hours, or sue their employers. Those 3 factors are enough to significantly change the employment landscape. A machine doesn't need to do everything a human can to replace that person in a job.

I know of 4 huge call centers in Makati and Manila here in the Philippines that are absolutely completely replacing workers with AI - many thousands of workers.
To think that AI will remain a complimentary tool is not just shortsighted, it's totally naive.
Call centers probably are the low hanging fruit but they are not outliers in any way, shape or form. The replacement of the biological workplace has definitely begun.

I love how everyone says what AI can not do. The keyword that they consistently leave out is “YET”

When people claim that artificial intelligence, robotics, or automation cannot replace their jobs, they often overlook a crucial factor: many jobs are currently designed and organized with the assumption that a human must be involved. However, if we remove the requirement for human intervention, these jobs can be redesigned to be performed in ways that no longer necessitate human input.

If 80-100% of everyone receives UBI, who pays for it, and how do they pay? If the only social identity (corporations) generates a profit beyond operating costs, will UBI be paid for by taxing all corporate profits? Our technology is racing ahead at exponential development rates, but our economic system is still stuck in the 20th century.

“Be adaptable” tells you nothing about what direction to go in.

it's not better to be prepared, it's irrelevant. It's like saying it's better to be prepared playing chess against the world champion. It's irrelevant, no matter how prepared you are against an overwhelming force

I trained for years to become a marine radio officer, our main task was to send and receive....morse code ! nowadays the ships master picks up a satellite phone, my job went in the blink of an eye. Bit like cars taking over from horses, with AI and other robotic newcomers I'm beginning to feel like a horse. Lucky for me I'm now retired, good luck !

Most humans can't do the full set of things humans can do :)

if company “A” automates formerly human performed work, and company “B” does not, company “B” will not be able to compete and will fold.

because why would you pay 10x more for something that is inferior???

Career advice... Nobody seems to have any. This whole "stay flexible" thing doesn't fly when people have to make huge investments of time and money towards education, housing and transportation. Then need those investments yield something, so they can pay off the debt. So, people will have to abstain from further formal education. And banks wont give loans to people who cant pay them back. I can not seem to find a true and clear wah where we aren't screwed by automation. Always have been, always will.

My question: What's the growing sector of the labor market? When the industrial revolution came, the jobs were in manufacturing (either the tools or products). During the recent digital revolution, the jobs were in the tech business.
My point is that the jobs that are somewhat "safe" from AI / robotics for now (plumber? electrician? auto mechanic? CEO? chef? wait person? hair stylist?) are anything buy "growth industries". I just don't see (at this point, maybe I'm wrong) what job markets will expand with the advent of AI. Sure, there may be an increased need for "AI professional", that appears to me to be a high cost of entry in terms of education and experience.

How to prepare? Buy AI stocks. What if China attacks Taiwan and Nvidia crashes? What stock do we buy?

I literally just this morning, made a system that passes the touring test of producing better real estate photos than I actually do, as a professional real estate photographer. I didn't design the AI, more developed the shooting system, post production architecture, automation scripts, and 3 different photo centric AI's. But finally, I don't have to edit real estate photos anymore. So, I just saved myself 45 min of editing on every shoot i do, I often do 3 shoots a day, and I bill myself out at over $100/hr,

I'm not worried about AI taking my job. AI gives people like me superpowers.
