We need many more ITERs! Just like NASA had multiple parallel projects to develop the first moon landing. Compared to military spending and other green energy subsidies the budget for this millennium project is peanuts. If we will manage to do it mankind will celebrate this even in thousands of years!

With all the hype and outcry about Climate Change, they need to focus on this technology in a serious way. Solar and Wind power is not an efficient solution and Climate Change is 'inevitable' even 'apocalyptic' to some. We NEED to solve the energy problem before we can work on a way to reverse carbon emissions on a scale that will actually make a difference. Although sci-fi right now, maybe we can build massive atmospheric processors to filter the earth's air, and that's where the Fusion Reactors will be of great service! In the meantime, massive 'Re-Forestation' is something we can be working on right now as that is the natural solution to carbon emissions. That and stopping lumber corporations and developers from cutting down all the trees.
