Fognini looked his usual mix of boredom and arrogance and his footwork just casually walking, say what you want from Rune, but he looked the more mature and dedicated player on court even with a just plain hostile crowd.

Rune didn't deserve the crowd behaviour but this match might be the best thing that could happen to him - he showed maturity not only in winning the match but by not getting drawn into it with the crowd and garnered some sympathy. Tennis fans are famously fickle.

Rune learned his lesson in Madrid and was perfectly calm and focused today, even after the messed up smash. Actually he learned his lessons last year as well and since the outburst at RG he’s been steadily improving both mentally and tactically. About time people stop the hate, the kid is 20 and already one of the best players in the world. But even if the Youtube commenters keep bashing him and crowds booing, he’s gonna be winning. I think he is kind of like Djokovic, he will use the negative energy to be his driving force.

No amount of booing can change the fact that Rune is the better tennis player. A few more of that silly net clipping smashes wouldn't have changed the result either.

Fognini is in my opinion one of the most talented player ever played. This guy had a potential to easialy be in the top 10. Feel and touch this guy has on the raquet is crazy. People who play tennis competitively will understand this. I find such a shame he never had mental strenght and will to put the work on as some other players. Where would his end be. I invite you all to watch his matches and follow his movement and listen to the sound of ball. Looks and feels so easy when he does it.
I just had to share this somewhere because it was bothering me so much. Such a wasted talent its trully shame.
