I keep seeing comments that the video is confusing to non-fans of Yu-Gi-Oh (damn...) so here's a little dictionary of Yu-Gi-Oh terms to try and help:

The anime series in order are: Yu-Gi-Oh, GX, 5D's, Zexal, Arc-V, and VRAINS. There's also the new show Yu-Gi-Oh Sevens, which is not relevant to the topic at hand.

Archetype: a group of cards that share a particular name that support one another and synergize together

Turbo: A deck that's specifically designed to play a particular card much faster than the card was intended.

Backrow: The zones of the field where spells and traps are played.

Protection: effects that prevent your cards from being destroyed

Search/Searcher: cards that let you select and retrieve specific cards out of your deck

Beater/Beatstick: a monster with high Attack Points that doesn't do much else relevant.

Boss: an extremely powerful monster that decks are typically built around

Swarming: a deck's ability to play several monsters to the field in rapid succession

Brick: when your hand sucks so bad you have no good moves available

One Turn Kill/OTK: a combo that deals an immense amount of damage sufficient to defeat an enemy that's still at high life points.

Control: A deck or combo that's designed to restrict your opponent's moves.

Consistency: a deck's ability to make good moves regardless of the cards drawn

" Everybody played boring Decks, not like me who played a stall deck with no win condition except waiting for the opponent to deck out."

This is the game that I have played the most on Switch. Over 400 hours, I made so many decks and played so many games. I still haven't got all the cards and I still can make some more decks I would like but many some cards are so rare drops that it is almost impossible to do it.
So IF you are a fan of Yugioh OR you just have a curiosity to see how the game is played you HAVE to buy it. Seriously. The story eases you with all the differen mechanics. The game is perfect and the only bad thing is of course that new cards will not be added but it does make sense.

1:17 I actually have a similar story. I was playing Legacy of the Duelist Link Evolution and playing the reverse duel of Blair vs Chazz. For the record, I was playing Artifacts, an archetype based around monsters that could set in the spell and trap zones and gain effects if they're summoned on the opponent's turn. We were caught in a complete stalemate. Chazz had 2, later 3 Ojama Knights in defense position and I had Artifacts Vajra, Beagalltach, and the Seal of Orichalcos on the field so I can't summon anything stronger from the Extra deck. Chazz had Ojama Country which can switch the ATT and DEF of all monsters on the field but he never once activated it. He had the opportunity to turn the duel in his favor and he never took it. We were stalemated until he eventually ran out of draws.

15:04, Joke about how Ghost Girl always loses as a massive waste of how great a deck Altergeist is goes here. Seriously, she's the modern equivalent of Mai Valentine.

That “worst game of yu-gi-oh” story is hilarious! I’ve never played yu-gi-oh, but I’ve played Magic the Gathering with my dad and it’s the same basic concept. Great review! I love all of your videos!

YouTube recommended this video for me, i didn't realize the views and subs at first so i was shocked to see them so low. so yeah youtube is doing a great job at recommending smaller channels of quality! 👍

"I want to play against people who don't run Meta"
Yeah, sounds like every multiplayer game I've ever played. I feel you, J.
Edit: Holy shit I have no clue about anything you're talking about.

hey man, i just wanted to let you know how much i appreciate and love your videos. Im amazed by the fact that you are able to upload 30~ mins long videos almost every week. I cant imagine the passion and work that drive you forward. I tend to listen to these type of videos when i go to sleep. they help me relax. i fucking love em. i usually just pick your review playlist and leave thr videos playing even after i fall asleep, which i think is good for the youtube algorithm. anyways, never stop making vids brother! youtube and i need you!

My cut off was basically the same as you, 2010, and every time I try to peer back in, it's so overwhelming. Yu-Gi-Oh is very intimidating to get back into because the meta changes every five seconds and new mechanics and cards become too much to keep up with so if I'm going back to the game, it is video games.
I recommend the Tag Force games on PSP. That's probably the closest to your Xenoverse idea we're gonna get.

Oh god I know exactly how you feel. I've quit this game three times. The first time was around the age of the Elemental Heroes. I saw that they were all practically useless unless you had _all_ of them and red flags went off. Then the Destiny Heroes. Then the Inzectors. I saw the writing on the wall and quit. Up to that point, I had gotten no less than 4th in the past 10 tournaments I was in, and won 2 of them. Balanced Warrior deck that somehow only I knew how to use.

_FUCK_ Inzectors, by the way. Especially Hornet. I got Hornet in a pack once. *I ate it.*

I got dragged back into it a few years later, and tried using my previous deck to see how it would do. I was thrashed so hard that I spent an unreasonable amount of time and money making a new deck from scratch. Which turned out to be a modified Simochi Burn. Did okay for a while, had to quit again because car.

Came back two months later. There was this stupid-broken sea monster everyone was using, but you at least had a _chance_ of winning.

Then came the Wind-Ups.

I was humiliated. This no longer had anything to do with skill. The deck played itself, you just had to buy it. I asked the next guy what his deck was, and when he said "Wind-Ups, " I tried to forfeit immediately. But he convinced me to stay. This was a mistake.

He made *_thirteen summons_* on his first turn and left me with *_one_* card in my hand before I had a chance to do *_anything._*

I haven't played the game since.

The only thing I want from this Game is to have Music and Voicelines from the Anime and Duel Links. Animations for each Monster would be cool too like the GX Game from the DSLite

I have had an intersting duel with Tiea once where she was on the receiving end of an attack flipped a rush recklessly to beef up her monster, and I countered by flipping MY own rush recklessly and she still ate that attack

Pendulum can still spam summon from the hand and with link monsters they can function just as good if not better than they did before

Yu-Gi-Oh video games have hit a stalemate of what they can do in my opinion I feel like a Xenoverse to ask Yu-Gi-Oh game is needed in order to reinvigorate the franchise or go the route of the Pokemon games
