You say Nintendo hasn't embraced VR yet but that's not 100% true. They did Labo VR for the Switch and even updated some of their AAA games with VR support. It's not a full on VR system but it's not like they are ignoring VR entirely.

So, even at the beginning, Microsoft tried to buy their way into the market by acquiring giant gaming publishers? Why am I not surprised?

Also, nice choice on the SmackDown 2 menu music!

The only thing Nintendo did wrong was that they made the Nintendo 64 a cartridge based system instead of a CD-ROM system.

Just as Microsoft tried to partner with Nintendo, Nintendo tried the same thing nearly 20 years earlier with Atari!
Nintendo wanted to release the Famicom in the US and tried to partner with Atari, Inc to brand it as an Atari system. The shifting fortunes of the 1983 game market, the in-development 7800 system, the firing of Atari president Ray Kassar, the lateness of the successor, Atari's false outrage at the Coleco Adam computer seemingly violating an agreement with Nintendo over Donkey Kong's computer rights... ALL OF THIS happened to leave the deal to fall apart.

Nintendo has never sold a system at a loss. Sega started that trend, soon Microsoft, most notably, then Sony. To this day, even the VirtualBoy was not sold or clearanced out below cost.

If you wanna see how it really went down between Sony and Nintendo then you’ll have to go watch Kutaragi’s Way. True story

Fun fact, I designed the Panasonic Q as the successor to the N64, (Named it the super duper nintendo) and got an official nintendo magazine as a thank you of an issue I already owned. If only I knew more about copyright laws when I was in my early to mid teens.

I'm not 💯 about this, but I have a distinctive memory of a hotel tv that had a Nintendo console built into the tv that allowed you to put your game into the tv. It was in the states somewhere. I don't have a passport. It might have been a N64 even but it definitely had the ability to read your cartridges from home.

OG Xbox sold maybe 20% more consoles than the GameCube at the most. I think it's actually closer to 15%. That's hardly "obliterating" them. GameCube may have sold more software units; they certainly had more Million-Sellers.
