In case anyone is missing the narrative significance of Rocket. A proper character arc always ends where it begins; with the character going back home.

Rockets, as a raccoon, was born on Earth; but Rocket, as a person, was born in the labs of High Evolutionary.

Drax will either die or retire, as Dave Bautista is done with the character.

Nebula literally killed her old self to become someone new. Whomever that night be is no longer compatible with the Guardians.

Gamora is tricky. The version of her that loved Quill died. And the new one has a narrative choice to make: Either follow the same path, essentially making the other Gamoras story completely unnecessary, or strike out on her own.

With Rocket dead, Groot will strike out on his own and become a mercenary unto himself.

Depending on what happens with Drax, Mantis will either retire with him, or flee into the void.
