Harbor Freight Diesel Transfer Pump Review - 12V Transfer Pump

When I shopped online this did not show up at Harbor Freight. But there it was on the shelf when I went to pick up the hand pump. And I'm glad for it!

As with most Harbor Freight stuff, it's not quite complete. So this pump does not come with a suction hose. It does have the nipples and hose clamps. I bought this short piece at and auto parts store for a few dollars.

Also the electrical connection is stupidly short. So I rigged up my jumper cables to get me the battery. I should absolutely run a permanent cable, but in the near future I don't plan to run the diesel tanks all that much so hopefully it won't really be necessary to rig this mess up all the time.

Anyway, as for the pump, so far it's worked great. It has a few small leaks here and there, to the tune of a few drips, so nothing really problematic. Would I recommend to a friend? Absolutely!

Just a heads up - The manual instructs you to cut a section off of the discharge pump hose to make your suction hose. So its not really left out.

I plumbed mine to my transfer tank with 3/4 in fittings works great

If you mount a connector on it, you can just plug it into your trailer connection. Easier than opening the hood.

1/2 copper tubing bent into an “L” works great on the suction side

The instructions say to cut the pipe in half, so it technically comes with suction pipe too

2024 price is 140 now. Plus 30 extra for the 1yr warranty if the motor burns up or sosomething.

Did your pump come with the metal suction strainer as pictured on the website that looks smaller diameter? Mine I just got came with a plastic one it’s still a nice strainer but it won’t fit through the opening in my tank because it is to large.

a good idea is to cut off part of the 13 ft hose to make a suction hose. to straighten the rubber hose I placed a step ladder in front of my reddy heater, hung the hose over the ladder and let my reddy heater soften the hose. I tied some weights to each end of the hose so the hose would stretch as it heated up. this work rather well.

Any priming necessary? I've tried to extract diesel out of my sailboat using two different hand pumps with no success. Thought it might be a priming issue. Thanks.

Why did you switch to a hand pump? I just bought the electric yesterday for swapping oil tanks with home heating fuel. $1.40/gallon 😭

Watched your video cause I was looking at the same pump to buy.  Saw the Theta Xi sticker on your truck -  YITB brother!  Theta Xi Kappa Tau -  West Virginia!

Does it comes with the diesel flow meter to measure how much output it draw? and how many liters per minute does it draw?

YITB Brother Tom. 6294. Quick question: Diesel only? Or will it work for gasoline?

How thick of oil can you pump with this?
Also, thanks for doing a review, since none were available before this!
