If I remember right, someone recommended coating your stick with some sugar first before putting it into the sugar solution to give the crystallization process a better jump start.

Chopsticks & bamboo skewers work best, make sure coat the stick with regular sugar then insert into sugar water & don't move it at all for about 2 wks

you can put a little food coloring in if you want. I recommend getting cheap wooden chop sticks, & cut them in half. they are perfect, & cheap for this. if it crystalizes not on the stick, you can redissolve it on a stove, & reuse. I recommend putting cheesecloth or something on top to keep out bugs. it also works best in a hot place. like the porch during summer. it's a great summer activity, & science experiment for kids to learn too!

We used to do this when we were kids, put food coloring in it, and flavorings too.

You have to have crystalized sugar before it works, so finish boiling your sugar cane juice so it turns to like a syrup, then add some crystalized sugar.

you should try sugarcane juice...here in India we drink it a lot in summer season...it is so sweet and refreshing...please try it! :D

Yea you have to cook the cane a bit longer. Plus, next time you plant cane, do it in 2 foot sections, long ways. Anyways, good luck I enjoy your visits. I planted a coconut because of you 😂

I LOVE rock candy. I always buy it whenever I see them in a store. I’ve ordered it too on Amazon. One time I bought bite size in a big bag and the rock crystals was attached by thin string rather than the usual stick it comes with.

we have a lot of sugar cane in zimbabwe, its quite common to see people chewing on it (obviously taking off the outside part) and spitting the excess parts out. personally its my favourite its juicy and sweet, although its been failed, try it on its own! its amazing!. Lots of love Me xx ❤️

The process can be expedited if you use wood stirs/popsicle sticks and soak them in sugar water; the sugar on the stick acts as the catalyst for the reaction. If the experiment still takes to long then more sugar dissolved in water might help

I miss eating sugarcane. Back around 1997 here in California, my mom and aunt, they grew an acres of or so of sugarcane. Now those fields are gone and are now replaced with houses. It was nice to have a garage full of harvested sugarcane.

It's better if you just use the sugar cane to make a homemade Mexican fruit punch 😌👌you can chew on the pieces of sugar cane to squeeze the fruit punch out of them and if they are dry then just dip them in your cup of fruit punch to rehydrate them to keep chewing on them. Do be careful chewing on the sugar cane you can get splinters

You've to boil the cane till it's thincker in pre stages of jaggery (we call it kakvi), then it crystalises easily.

my class did this one time but used those pipe cleaners to do it instead of a makeup brush, and made a shape like a star or and angel or heart and left it. we came back after christmas break and they were all our shaped crystals to hang on our tree next year. miss that man😔

Aww this is sweet. My mom and grandma made rock candy all the time when she was young, but my mom forgot how and never really did with me. I’ll probably ask my grandma how if she still remembers and make it some time :>

If my knowledge of growing bismuth crystals applies to sugar I would recommend having the solution cool off slower (insulate your container with Styrofoam or something to keep the heat in) and you shall be blessed with larger crystals

My mom told me she would just eat or chew the raw cane plant when she was little in the Philippines and it was good. I really wanna try it and try eating it raw for the taste and the whole experience of course!
