I own the limited edition chrome purple cassette of this album. I like to show it to people that were my age (early 20's) in the 1980's and ask them what year they think this came out. They are always floored when I say it came out in 2015. This album defines Vaporwave.

Do you like Luxury Elite? Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Late Night Delight came out in '13, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a sheen of 80's capitalist idealism that really gives the songs a big boost. She's been compared to Home, but I think Luxury Elite has a far more bitter, cynical sense of existence. In '15, Luxury released this, World Class, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "S.W.A.K.", a song so catchy, most people probably don't go into obsessive compulsive rants on clothing while listening to it. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about my degrading mental state itself.

Anyone else have the experience of their parents watching the popular crime/sci fi shows (CSI, Law and Order, Criminal Minds, etc), and while you wouldn't actually watch the show seriously because you were a kid that most likely didn't care/understand that as entertainment, you would glance at it and get a sense of wonder about the city life and seeing adults do adult things in the city like talk about their serious life drama? That, on top of hearing those theme songs. That's the vibe that this album gives me, and its something that I haven't felt for a long time.

Yeah, now you listen to vaporwave at midnight. But this time the nostalgia comes with cognizance. The music is aware of the sadness of days that won't come back, of promises unfulfilled. It's a vapor.

I don't know why but S.W.A.K always fills me with this calm, almost optimistic feeling whenever I listen to it. I feel like I'm at a conference building in Wall Street, smoking cigars and watching the day go by as my secretary catches me up on the latest fiscal reports. Life's good, mang.
