Mary Bergin & Ailbhe Du Vé (Ireland)

MARY BERGIN is hailed as the „Queen of the Irish tin whistle”. She is a legend in her own right and recorded the two groundbraking solo-CDs Feadoga Stain (1979) and Feadoga Stain2 (1993) as well as four CDs with her band DORDAN. This female quartet married Irish trad music with Baroque and really was unique. I toured the ladies many times in the 1990s and early 2000s. Mary, Martina, Derbhail and Kathleen became good friends and will always stay in my heart. In this amazing film Mary gives us a very personal insight to her privacy and is playing along with her gorgeous daughter Ailbhe.

There was a summer festival in claregalway a few years ago. She was there. I briefly spoke with her. She’s a gem. I used to live down the street from her but I never got to see her until that day I spoke with her. This is a lovely video.

Only just discovered this video from 2020 and I'm really excited for Mary's Volume three and it's also wonderful to see her play music with her daughter, as well as to see where she's writing the third book from. I bought and worked through Volumes one and two during lockdown and they changed my life!

What i don't get - and this is as a whistle player - is her top hand posture is almost side-on. I'm pretty sure my hands would cramp immediately if i did that. Because she's so ridiculously good i'm almost tempted to try anyway in the hope that i acquire some talent
