Our immediate reactions after watching 2023 Championship final.

Simone Biles is an eight time all-around national champion! Reigning Olympic all-around champion, Sunisa Lee, was fantastic on beam. Shilese Jones proved once again why she is top in the world.  Jordan Chiles rallied but Jade Carey finished much lower than expected. Leanne Wong was consistent and clean throughout. We discuss Kayla DiCello, Skye Blakely, Josc Roberson, Kaliya Lincoln and more! We talk about what happened on the floor, follow up on the great beam mat debacle and discuss what the athletes and coaches had to say after the meet. We went live right here on this page Sunday, August 27th after the final senior women's competition. Here's how to ask questions live.

Here’s how our event coverage works:
1. We give everyone the main headlines in the first 10-15 minutes.
2. We continue our conversation exclusively with our Club members.

Jade and Jordan have gone straight from the last Olympics, to the Goat tour, to NCAA, to Worlds and back to NCAA, and now right into this Olympic lead-up year, without taking any real big break, it's not really surprising they are burnt out...

It seems clear that, barring injury, simone, shilese and skye will be on the world team. The USA could comfortably use them 11 of the 12 routines for finals (replace Skye's floor with someone else). Given these 3 studs, the US needs a 4th athlete for floor - likely Lincoln, Jocelyn or Jade. Josc or jade give you a higher vault potential with the chung versus lincolns dty, and possible individual medal there too. But lincoln scored significantly better here on floor both days, and that is the greater need. Hmmm. For the 5th spot, the team can gamble on Suni for beam and maybe bars, or be smart and get a solid all-arounder who can give you 13.5-14 on any apparatus if needed. This was the role Chiles played in tokyo and it paid off to have a solid all-arounder to sub in for simone at the last minute. So, Im looking at Leanne or Chiles here. Advantage Leanne Wong for competing so well here under the pressure in front of a big crowd. The international judges will love her artistry, and that 14 floor score today boosts her chances. She really stepped it up and could get a spot if she looks just as good at camp. Suni is the wild card - if she shows up doing all around with full difficulty, who knows. Edited to add the selection committee would be crazy to bring two "leg events girls" in my opinion, even if it is the highest scoring *potential team. Why risk gold if there is an injury because you wanted an extra 2 or 3 tenths on vault, but then get stuck using a subpar bars routine if any of your top 3 can't go, again like Simone in Tokyo. Can you imagine being forced to compete lincoln, jade or joc on bars??? If you put two of them on the team, what a needless gamble. It isnt worth it, just count a solid dty vault from skye or shilese.

Thanks so much for pointing out that US Gymnastics is finally being forced to treat these tremendous athletes the beginnings of professional respect. USAG has treated them as property, monetizing them as if they hadn't been responsible for literal crimes over decades.

To me Simone, Shilese, Leanne, and Skye are absolute locks for worlds with the 5th spot being open for Jordan or maybe Suni depending on if they want to take a risk just for her bars and beam scores. I would say put Suni on the team and have Jordan be alternate because although she had a bad day Chiles is still one of the most consistent and can be used on all 4 events in case of injury or pull out.

For sure Simone (GOAT), Shilese (2nd best scores), and Leanne (artistry)

In the mix Josc, Skye.
Judges really dislike Jade for some reason.

Jade Carey was underscored on all her routines. Her floor routine deserved higher marks. The judges treated her unfairly and judged her harshly. The judges did a terrible job and ruined the meet.

Worlds prediction: Simone Shilese Skye Leanne Suni, alternate: Jordan

Vault: Simone, Shilese, Skye/Leanne
Bars: Shilese, Skye, Suni or Simone depending on how Suni is performing
Beam: Simone, Suni, Skye
Floor: Simone, Shilese, Leanne

Simone, Shi, Skye, Leanne, Suni. Leanne FX instead of Skye both days, 4th score on anything in quals, built in backup with solid top 5 on everything. For 5th they have options for Suni BB, probably UB too, Josc for VT, or Kaliyah for FX. Hoping Leanne's upgrades make her FX undeniable.

Jade’s scores were ridiculous especially floor. Even floor on day one was stupid low for one short landing. I guess we’re not supposed to believe our lying eyes. They always do this her though. It didn’t work out so well last Olympics leaving your other two event finalist off the team so ‘more girls could attend’” AND it put way too much pressure on Simone at the same time.

I notice.. There is little talk about Jordan. What are we thinking about her out in these gymnastics streets? 😱

Haven’t listened yet so I don’t know your thoughts but based on AA Leanne deserves a spot on Worlds but the problem is she isn’t top 3 on any one event. She’s a solid all arounder which makes her a great alternate, but it just seems unfair for someone who is really great on only one event to be given a spot over her when she scores higher overall. It’s so hard though because even if she “deserves it” it might not be best for team USA score wise. If Worlds was only a 4 person team then I think they would take Leanne. Ironically since there are more spots available, they can afford a specialist and therefore might not take Leanne since she doesn’t score the highest on any event. So instead of Leanne, they could have Skye (vault, bars, beam) and Kaliya (floor) and that would likely be a higher score than Leanne doing all 4 events even though she has a higher AA than both of them. However when thinking of qualifying, Leanne can definitely help as opposed to a specialist like Kaliya who wouldn’t be used other than on floor. Especially if Suni is on the team but then isn’t able to do bars, Leanne could step in.

Re the domestic judging discourse:

2022 US Championship floor
Shi: 8.4E, 8.55E
Jade: 7.95E, 8.15E

2022 Worlds floor
Shi: 8.1E, 8.033E, 8.2E
Jade: 7.966E, 8 E, 8.066E

So Jade please fight for an international spot and get the international score.

What do Jade supporters think she ought to have gotten on the floor, exactly? On night 2, Shilese has the same start value and significantly greater artistry, placements, jumps, extension, musicality, and landings. Although none of these girls are professional ballerinas, do you believe Jade's floor score should have been close to Shiles'? Really? I don't think you realize that Jade's Olympic floor was utilized as the primary example of what not to do artistically under the new COP in the same way that Kara Eaker's ring leaps were used by the FIG to show what wont be credited. If there is a solid defense for poor scoring, it would be Leanne's scores from night two.
