6 La Vague/The Wave

This vocal trio appears in Act I of Theresa Koon's opera PROMISE, about the French Sculptor Camille Claudel. The title refers to a sculpture Camille created using jade and bronze. Three young women are playing together in the ocean, their heads turned in wonder and fear at the approach of an enormous wave. During this scene in the opera, the audience receives an increasing appreciation for the brilliance of Camille's craft, combined with a sense of the fear and excitement she feels regarding her deepening involvement with Rodin.
This recording is from a 2003 workshop performance at Nautilus Music Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota. The vocal trio includes Christina Baldwin, Adena Brumer and Elizabeth Munn. Jill Dawe conducts from the piano, with Liz Bell on Violin, Laura Handler on Cello, and Pat O-Keefe on Woodwinds.
