Photosynthesizing animals are WILD! Thanks for making this video for me, Jackson!

This was EXTREMELY interesting and well presented. Shame it has so few views!

@1:30 - the compounds at the top of the chart are labeled wrong - methane is CH4 and ammonia is NH3.

Reading your book currently. Pretty good stuff.

I wonder why, if kleptoplasty was an indicator of an evolutionary step between two separate organisms and endosymbiosis, we wouldn't already see photosynthetic endosymbiosis in tons of invertebrates by now (and not meaning the type of symbiosis we see in cnidarians and the like and their respective symbionts). It just seems like if it was a clear evolutionary path to full endosymbiosis in those examples in the video, we'd see them by now (although I could absolutely be wrong. That's just my intuition and the first thing I'd check about it). Kleptoplasty could certainly be a precursor to endosymbiosis but perhaps not necessarily an indicator of that direction

photosynthetic slugs sounds somehow like fad diet in the making

You can discern he actually gives a shit because he puts sources to cross refference in the description. Investigate everything yourself don't just blindly believe.

😄 of course, he does sound like an existentially depressed and jaded science professor.
