The best way to record gameplay on PC is using the free app OBS. This video shows how I record gameplay using OBS including details on settings, hardware required and how to make the footage look as good as possible on youtube. I also show some other ways to configure the settings so that you can set up up OBS in the best way for your own purposes and requirements.

I've always had to go with Shadowplay myself as when using OBS it affects the gameplay too much with stuttering / FPS dropping. With Shadowplay recording (Instant Replay) there is zero gameplay difference whether it's on or off.

I don't understand why this is because both programs are using the NVENC (GPU) encoder, and I have both output formats set to the same resolution / bitrate / FPS etc. Maybe it's specific to the instant replay feature and this is far less demanding than hitting start / stop recording instead in either software.

I find the same goes for streaming as well, Shadowplay does a better job for me than OBS. My setup isn't weak either (although GPU getting on a bit now), i7-10700k, GTX 1080ti, 32gb DDR4 RAM, NVME SSD for OS and SSD HDD for game recordings.

Just a hint for vid editing in general..human mind will notice audio "fails" much faster than visual "problems"...what triggered me immediately watching this video is, when your mic is off..theres totally silence..the "ambience" sound going quiet...different ways to avoid this...just saying..it sounds a bit weird ;). besides this, great stuff as always! Edit..just watched it to the end ~ kick my ass..its the noise gate/compressor setting for sure ;)

on a system with a ryzen 5 5600x and rtx 3060ti which encoder would it be better to use the CPU x264 or the hardware GPU nvenc to get the fps as high as possible and less drops and good 1080p video

Obs is not a good software if you dont have a insanely fast computer since unlike the nvidia or amd drivers it lowers fps drastically even windows game capture is better in terms of performance.

I guess the best recording software is NVidia ShadowPlay. It can be in an instant replay (where it records last 5 minutes on-demand) or recording mode. And is already optimized for all games, since it is integrated into a videocard.

I'm American, but I guess I pronounce SATA the English way. It sounds right. 😁
