Car burglary is down 60% because the people are not willing to come down to the station to file a report because it takes too much time out of their day. Crime is not down in reality, but is down on paper because less people are coming forward to report it because they know nothing will be done.

You don't send your kids to Atlanta. You don't send your kids to Detroit. You don't send your kids to Oakland.

At least they didn’t lose their son too. They’re doing the right thing taking him back to Florida.

Not arresting or prosecuting criminals doesn't equate to crime being down.

It's a blessing to got their car break-in, God sent them a message, so their son would stay alive.

When I went to Lincoln University website to see what kind of school it is, under housing it says "university housing is conveniently located in a safe neighborhood in the city of Alameda." That tells you everything. Unfortunately the family learned the hard way that you have to do your research when going to an unknown city. I wish them well. Get out of Oakland.

A year and a half ago I had my van packed with my worldly belonging, getting ready to drive away from Oakland, and leaving California altogether. Before leaving I wanted to have a last meal at my favorite restaurant which is not too far from where this crime took place. I decided not to go and have my last meal there, because I knew that while enjoying dinner, my car windows would surely be smashed and my belongings gone. So I just got out of there and never came back.

They should’ve known when In-N-Out closed in Oakland that it’s not a safe place

Why on earth would a family send any child to get a degree at Lincoln University? Most locals have never heard of it.

stop saying "bip"...sounds way too innocent. it's a violent smashing of glass

The really crazy part is they will break into your car when there are items inside AND when there is nothing inside. Parking on the street is a gamble

The thieves get away with stealing is very upsetting.

The Florida Family should feel pretty good about this. The latest crime stats says that violent crime is down, car breakins are down 60 percent.

The result of soft on crime policy. Potentially losing their son to the violent crime should be their biggest concern. Don't forget to vote this fall for your family and community.

It's too bad ktvu insists on enabling lies rather than legitimate Facts involving crime.
