That's the first time that I've heard the CSIRO pronounced with each letter separately. Here in Aus we normally don't have a "space" between each letter when we say it. But, then, the Australian dialect can be odd :P Struth!

Brighter at the edges is a typical feature of a tornado phenomena, it indicates the whole thing is part of a tube, similar to a fire tornado!
