Vietnamese here, I would like to comment something about our map:
1. You have missed the Spratly Islands (Trường Sa) and the Paracel Islands (Hoàng Sa). We have undeniable historical evidence to prove those are our lands
2. You have missed the Phú Quốc Islands and some islands on the North
Also, I kinda wanted the South China Sea named Indochina Sea or South East Asia Sea, I hope the UN changed its name though

How could they leave out the Japanese occupation (1940-1945) -- the period that gave rise to the Viet Minh under the leadership of Ho Chi Minh?

Despite thousands of years of occupation and assimilation by China, Vietnam still came out as a sovereign country. Though nowadays the VN government is said to be in the sphere of Chinese influence.

My god so much hatred. I’m on Vietnam’s side in this dispute but I must say, what does Vietnam being Chinese or not have to do with the dispute, like seriously.

The Vietnam War was an ugly war, but that is in the past and most of us both in the U.S. and Vietnam just want to move forward and maybe even work together to stop the real menace, China. And hey with Vietnam's location and ground fighters, and our Navy and Airforce, we would make one hell of team against China. Eventually we could even have trade policies that move would move are demand for cheap labor from places like a hostile nation such as china, to more negotiatelable and less belligerent countries like India, Cambodia, and Vietnam. If we were really serious about mending ties and pushing back against China, we could permit the sailing of weapons to Vietnam or even open a shared naval base
