How to write the letter 'A' in the car brand "KIA"? Actually, this is the Korean letter S(ㅅ), which is at the head of the name of King Sejong (세종). In the 15th century, this genius monarch invented hangeul (한글), an elegant fusion of Sanskrit and Chinese writing systems, whose creation is celebrated annually on October 9th and which seriously hinders language teaching in Korea - because it cannot express syllable stress, vowel length and irregular consonant reinforcement, so foreigners learning Korean are quite difficult to understand for Koreans, and vice versa.
