I don't know about anyone else but i find the singers from the older generations to be of a particular calibre unmatched by there modern contemporaries. Seems like the newer singers lack a degree of zest/energy and mastery of voice and its not only evident in opera but also the folk song of many cultures the world over, humans have to strive for mastery of their crafts in order for the performance to be popular.
