Wireman's new Fence Magician tool promises to make tying off tricky termination knots easier. This week I give the magician fencing tool a try out with some termination knots on sheep mesh. See how the Knot tying goes.

A quite superb piece of kit, but it really is only for professionals or very wealthy amateurs at its somewhat eyewatering $1500 price. As a humble farmer, the manual alternative is the only economic one for me - but it's still a very nice thing to see a video about. 🙂

Tim that bottom knot have taken off more of my skin and caused more pain than all the rest of the fencing put together - it’s on my Christmas present list and with luck can be passed on to my son! Thank you from Dorset, UK

Ian has got really talented engineers in his team. That's great to see

Good morning, Tim, I can see the fencing professional will have a unit in the ute, but someone like me a hobby farmer with soft pampered hands would also benefit from one. At least I would feel good when someone spotted the array of Gucci tools, I have courtesy of watching Tim Thompson.😁

So how do you cut off the end of the wire to make it neat when you finish the tie. You cannot break it off clean against thewire

Good demonstration at low drill speed, to see how it works. Would have liked to see a demo with drill on number 2 (high speed, not necessarily with full trigger), that's probably how you would use it in practice, and would be impressive to see.

10/10, I don't live where we use cattle fence but for dogs some of us use horse fence at a low-tension. If that tool fit a horse fence it might work well for smaller dog fence needs, though I have no fence-instal operation to need one.

Thanks Tim, could you please do a review for power crimp tool? As a comparison and alternative. Also a video of box end assembly with wire and knots variation would be excellent.

Looking at the article. Why would someone close wrap the tail within three inches of the gripple? Doesnt that defeat the purpose of being able to retension might as well use a goldenrod and crimp at that point.

The funkiest fence tying music I've heard

Nice piece of kit and definitely good for some, but I'll stick with my home made thingamajig ( commercially known as a wire twister ) which fits in a pocket and does the job fine.

this might be a dumb question but why cant you go straight into the clockwise direction and maybe add a few more loops. Wouldn't that be strong enough?

The writing in the thumbnail pic for this video looks like "Fence Magiciani" which just make me think of some sort of Italian pasta dish

Did it cut the tags off ? Or did the first example break tag off ?
Thank you i hadn't seen these before

I can’t see how it could do barb as the barbs would get in the way of the gripping mechanism

Hi Tim, would you be able to add prices of gear in your reviews?

Hmm! It might work fine midway between two picket wires but what happens when you're too close to a picket (as usually happens on sloping ground with the mesh at an angle)? Think I'll stick with hand tying or gripples which are more versatile. Maybe a tool too far.

you can get 90% they way there with a cheap t-post clip tool, just need to kock a few oute with hardened steel.
