Показать описание
The US Department of State annually administers the Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery Program that was established under the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1990 to allow natives of foreign nations who historically are a minority in the US (i.e. make up less than 50,000 over the preceeding 5 years of the DV Program ) to migrate there permanently. The Program allows up to 55,000 individuals from six geographic regions of the world to immigrate legally to the United States of America each year.
According to the Immigration 1990, the Diversity Program "requires, as a condition of eligibility for a diversity visa, that an alien have at least: (1) a high school education or its equivalent; or (2) two years of work experience in an occupation requiring at least two years of training or experience (within five years of the visa application date). Directs the Secretary of State to maintain information on the age, occupation, education level, and other relevant characteristics of immigrants issued such diversity visas. To obtain a diversity visa, applicants in foreign countries who "win" the lottery must undergo consular processing at a US embassy abroad and be successful at the interview. Applicants in the US who hold legal non-immigrant status can apply for the adjustment of status to permanent residency by filing form I-485.
