As an educator I still struggle with how satellites can distinguish between different kind of particulate matter (sizes). I understand it can measure the degree of scattering, the angle dependencie and wavelength of the light. As far as I understand Rayliegh scattering that gives you the product of the number of particles and their polirizability.
