On a day when smoke from wildfires in Ontario and Quebec hung in the air in Toronto, those in cottage country were urged not to burn as fire bans were put in place in several communities.

As of Tuesday, there were 47 forest fires burning throughout the province.
“We’re asking people, really, don’t burn, there’s really no need to burn,” said one official.

Meanwhile, Environment Canada issued an air quality statement for the Toronto area, warning about the risks of breathing wildfire smoke.
Sean O’Shea has more on how the wildfires are impacting air quality in the city, while Shallima Maharaj reports on the situation in cottage country.

I’m really wondering what is the mystery behind these wildfires across the country ?! There’s currently no heatwave to cause fires !!!!

No drought, forests green and lush, no reason for fires and yet hundreds of fires erupting and those eruptions are very large and very fast, not natural and not the slow start up of fires started by cigaret butts, or mufflers. These fires are being intentionally set.

It's getting bad here in Central PA as well. Smells like I am right by a campfire and we can't even see the mountains anymore through the haze.

I live in Grimsby and smoke is everywhere covering the escarpment and Lake Ontario shoreline.
Air quality is very bad and getting worse by the hour.

Why dont fire bans start at the beginning of May we all should know by now that May is usually a very hot month and having fire bans on that month could help prevent accidents
