That's how you handle delicate subjects like mental health. Shout out to Charlemagne for being sensitive and real.

Anxiety is so real. I am taking three classes this semester, one of which ends on Friday and I am four weeks behind. I am avoiding returning a call from one professor. Please pray for me people. I plan to spend the next three days at caribou.

Charlamagne might be a hypocrite and sellout in some matters. But incredible props for raising awareness on such an ignored subject and standing up for his mission.

This is some of the most moving stuff I've heard in a minute about mental health in general. Even though I'm a white guy people like C t G are the reason I was able to get my shit together years ago.

I'm so fully behind anyone who uses their platform to have real conversations about mental health. So many people live and suffer keeping it a secret. It's additional stress we don't need. We do need to *elevate the conversation*: no whispers, no euphemisms, stop *behaving* as though someone having challenging mental health conditions is a shameful thing. I know for a fact that the reasons for my issues were absolutely compounded by the reactions and responses of the people around me throughout my life. How people respond to attempts at genuinely real conversation, about the daily reality of living with a mental health condition, matters even more than meds or therapy.

It's our society, the people surrounding us, that tells us what/who we are *and how we should feel about that*. I've seen attitudes change since the 1970's (back when people would whisper the word 'cancer' like it was the Babadook) and they need to keep changing and keep improving. It's something that affects millions of people. Everyone knows someone who struggles, even creates problems for those around them, because of a mental health condition! This is our Normal and we need to be able to talk openly.

If someone is obviously clearer, more together, better and more capable, on medication then it should be normal for them to be encouraged to stay with it - by anyone they're talking to. But many people are too far way from being able to have the 'embarrassing and awkward conversation that leads to it Worse, when it's someone in the news it goes from awkward to salacious to a meme - and then it's moved on from. It's dismissive.

More power to this guy, good on him for doing it - in his own particular and very authentic way.

That’s cool he cancelled on Kanye for his health but then you go on a popular show and tell everything for your own fame 🤦🏻‍♂️.

Considering how many guns get pointed at them by the very people who are supposed to protect them, it's not remotely surprising that there is a constant state of anxiety within the black community. That they hold their heads up and walk outside anyway is a testament to mental strength.

If I thought there was a chance a cop'd point his pistol at me because I wore a hoodie to go to the store, I'd never leave the damn house.
