The reason why the steering wheel is like that is because it is meant to be an off-road vehicle, and that steering is ideal for offroading

It’s a wrangler not a sports car sorry to hear your losing your wrangler

The Jeep Steering wheel is meant is to move slighty so when you are driving over bumps or off roading it doesn’t turn the wheel easily

Random guy: “are you selling that car?”
Luke: I’m giving it away”

I run a 2011 manual JKU. Bought it with 112k miles. Currently 254k miles on it. Procharged 3.8 engine. 400hp clutch installed to handle the new torque and 370hp, running 37s My channel shows how I built it. Lotta garage time, but that's why I own a Jeep. Some of us want Jeeps for the ENJOYMENT of the builds/time/mods.

Dude no cap:
1. you went from a go-kart to a truck. All trucks feel a little loose in the steering. Maybe a new one with electronic steering will feel a bit better. But anything with hydraulic steering will feel this way if it has a longer steering shaft. Which almost all trucks have.
2. wranglers ride like garbage when you put massive negative offset wheels and throw a lift on without changing any other components to correct the new suspension angles of everything.
3. the tongue weight thing for the dirt it's not going to fall off. Don't be a chump. You see people towing like 500lbs over weight all the time. No ones going to nark on you for being like 3 lbs overweight, and I guarantee the truck won't feel any different.

I’ve been driving performance cars most of my life and finally decided to get something different - got a Jeep Wrangler, and so far love it after 4-months. It’s whatever makes you comfortable though, I’ve had nice cars that others love and I absolutely hate, and it’s just pointless keeping it if you aren’t happy with it. A suggestion - don’t spend thousands on a car until you’ve driven it for at least a full month or two - no one’s going to want to pay for upgrades, especially a dealer if you trade in. Hope the new truck turns out to be awesome for you!!

Canada got to love it. Can’t wait to see what truck you buy then sell in 2 months because of an anxiety attack.

Hahaha. People don't buy jeeps because they ride smooth

The problem is, you have never driven a straight front axle vehicle before.

A jeep is not for the weak .... I love my jeep

Trucks and larger vehicles have the same play in the steering wheel bc it makes it easier to drive. Imagine if the jeep had tight sport steering, it would be very dangerous bc any small movement in the steering wheel could cause you to lose control. My yukon and 4 runner has loose steering like that

The steering is not a flaw it's a feature. If you're off roading you don't want every rock to impact your steering. It was built for primarily off roading so yea.

Live axle front ends don't drive like IFS vehicles. There is also an adjustment screw on the side of the steering box (live axles don't have rack and pinion) to set the amount of play. Jeep was having an issue with steering box mount flex which may be what you are experiencing. Either way, it is still a pretty small vehicle to keep in the lane.

This is literally how every car drove in the 80s lol. I love it. I knew what I was getting in

Jeeps are the best off road vehicles for trails and snow/mud and for rock crawling me and my dad are in a jeep club called mud sweat and gears sonora California. We are in the Christmas parade and the Mother’s Day round up parade. We have a jeep wrangler rubicon 4 door hard top jk 2009 we have a 4 inc lift kit with an warn winch steal bumperers front and rear.

Am I going crazy? I’m driving a 2021 Wrangler Sahara and I have absolutely no problems with the steering at all. I don’t understand all of the ‘loose steering’ complaints. I mean, initially I was surprised but I adapted to it extremely quickly. Loving it now tbh.

I live in Utah so I overland and rock crawling alot in mine. TBH I would not have gotten it if I didn’t live here but since I do it is amazing! It’s meant to be off road that’s what it loves doing.

loose/ lots of steering input is common on body on frame trucks. Your new truck will have the same amount of wheel play as Jeep.

The steering set up is that way because it has to be good off road. Similarly suspension in sports cars has to be good when driving at high speeds which makes it worse at slow speeds. Your little car can't off road so steering is only tuned for the road.
