Hey John, just got the letter too. As you said it's a race to bottom. .. You mentioned in the beginning that they could have come out as leaders if they kept their original program which was 100% goes to contributors. Is that a viable option for a company to do that ?

I think that it was worst for us when the marketplace and the subscription model of storyblocks was living together because they were showing the subscription contents before the rest in the page results
So they used our footage to show a complete offer of contents but my sales were lower and lower and I felt exploited!
After they have kicked me out, I started to sell more in all other agencies, probably because the customers now cannot find a lot there and prefer to move.

It's the same for pay-TV subscriptions, it's better to pay more and subscribe to a service that offers you all you want to see.

And time is money for PRO customers who purchase footage seriously,
the rest may find free footage in some video sharing sites or grab from youtube.

If they treat creators so poorly, what does that say for their future? Can they survive without great content or will they only offer poor content at a higher price?


I am just starting out as a video creator (not stock content creator) are they worth subscribing to?

The integration in LumaFusion is almost worth the cost of entry. But I’m not convinced they are the best option for me after your (content creators) treatment.

after Storyblocks has closed the marketplace and removed all our videos, I started to sell more in other agencies, so the customers have moved to other agencies where they can find more contents together!

I don't understand, how they lied to you. You seem like you didn't read terms and conditions. Every business does this if it's not in their best interest. This is no difference than working for a company for 20 years and them going out business. You don't have to use the new service amd they aren't forcing you to. You get to take your content. In the future look at what you're actually getting into next time.
