How's it going everyone? Today I decided to give the Zed code editor a shot. I'm looking forward to pairing it with AI and seeing how it goes! What do you guys think?

I really like the smoothness of zed and look forward to more content about zed, especially AI related features.

It was a next-gen editor when they announced it. Now development is too slow and it lacks a lot of features that every other editor has :D

Funny that I see this video. Two days ago I gave Zed another try, initially there was no code intellisense for Zig so I left it again for vim and VSCode. But now I saw Zig plugin was available and I adore it. The AI auto fill is nice, although with zig (being so new and changing std lib) it's a bit of hit or miss. But I adore how quick it starts scrolling is smooth even massive data files, that VSCode choked on and vim also did fine, are doing fine. It's minimalist but nice to use. I actually did a video this morning on Zig API calls and I used zed eventhough I still had to install it on that specific machine I do my recording on. That is how much I already like it.

Zed is very similar to Kate (KDE); in Kate, you have "snippets, " which are frequently used pieces of text (set by you) that you can call within the software whenever you want, you have the ability to call external tools, and finally, plugins written in JavaScript.
The GUI of Kate remains very clean and minimal.

I am using zed for a few couple of months now... and I feel it's much better than vsc for me atleast
Flutter is still a pain point, React, Next.js, and Python projects work just fine

Hey fedric it nice to hear after a long time you change the code editor, but I also want to can I use zed for creating ipynb (notebooks) for data science let me if I can

couldn't be happier with this software. I love that it is written in rust and is open source. The lack of features and high level of performance is exactly why I love it. I probably never change ide

Are you interested in any other cool editors? I used helix for a little while and I really like it. It'd be cool to see you try it

you did not mention, that it is not yet officially available for Windows

I tried Zed by building it from source since there's currently no official build for Windows yet. So far I'm really liking Zed, I might ditch VSCode once Zed gets officially released on Windows. VSCode is good, but Zed has the stuff that I would want in a code editor.

Tried it. Cool. Maybe I'll be back to it on v1.0, or at least when it will be possible to use Emmet with SCSS for example ))
