Very nice first video, David. Great presentation, especially considering no script, and loving the black and white.

So good to see you here, David. I've been a photographer for over 40 years - many of them as a paid professional - and I just ordered a D-Lux 8 for myself as a daily walkaround camera. I also recently purchased the Hasselblad X2D because I wanted to get back to a simpler, more enjoyable practice of photography. I can't wait for the D-Lux 8 to arrive. I have subscribed, and I look forward to your future videos. Like yourself and Hugh Brownstone, I've been contemplating changing my YouTube videos to monochrome. Perhaps it'll become the signiture look for real photographers on YouTube! 🙂

Good luck on your new channel! It’s good to see some of us at a certain age’s perspective. I’ve been shooting Leica for a very long time. It’s good to see a practical look at this camera.

Hey David, thank you for your video. I am. 61 and feel your pain. I am also moving to smaller cameras, having started years ago with a Pentax K100D, moving to Canon, now FujiFilm (XT3, XS10, XA5) and recently bought a little Leica D-Lux 4. I know the 4 isn't a "true" Leica but the images are gorgeous and so I am now going to pull the trigger on an 8. Thanks again!

Thank you for the enjoyable and honest video - it was fun to watch. After becoming aware of the D-Lux 8, I originally wanted it as a replacement for my battered X1 from April 2010, which has served me well, but the D-Lux 8 was the one I wanted. But something always held me back. Now it's a second-hand X2 in great condition and I'm really convinced that the D-Lux 8 wouldn't have been any better in terms of image quality. Sure, the D-Lux has a zoom and certainly looks nicer, but I think that the X2 still has an amazing quality in the combination Elmait lens / 16 MP APS-C sensor. A direct comparison would certainly be exciting - and I'm currently working on such a video. Good luck with your channel!

I find myself in a similar space. I have purchased a Leica Q3 and just took it on a tour of Italy and Greece and adore it. It was purchased to replace my Nikon D800 system which has been the core of my professional career as a Travel/Fashion/Advertising Photographer. I have retired from the professional life and will be just doing Photography for my pleasure and will sell prints occasionally. I am thinking about acquiring a Leica D-Lux 8 as a lightweight, even more compact companion for my Q3. Thank you so much for your insights into this camera.

Good on you David! I like your straight forward approach.

Nice first video. We're quite similar (even our names) and it's refreshing to see photographers rather than influencers putting forward their opinions. I think the D-Lux 8 is a near perfect walkaround camera - if it had weather sealing it would be even better.

Having had my DLux8 for a little while now I am already quite fond of it. This is my first foray into Leica having been a Canon and Nikon man from day one of professional life. I’m already contemplating the M System.

Congratulations on a wonderful introductory video. An honest presentation by a real photographer, not an influencer. Three Blind Men and An Elephant resonated with me when Hugh commented that the D-Lux 8 is a wonderful alternative to those days that I do not want to lug my SL2-S Reporter for a quick outing. Ironically, next week I am taking my wife to Vienna for her first visit to Europe and Digitalstore Vienna has now been added to my must visit list. Keep up the good work!

I enjoyed your video and honest opinions David, and look forward to seeing the results from your D-Lux 8. I got my D-Lux 8 just today and will be out and about with it during the week. I'm going to subscribe now and look forward to seeing more videos. Greetings from Ireland.

Hello! I came across your channel by accident. I am also a professional photographer, but at 78, I do more for amusement than to put bread on the table. I started with a Zeis Icon in the early '60s and then went to Minolta, Mamiya, Nikon, Canon, Fuji, and finally, Sony. I have a Sony 6300 with a couple of lenses. I also have a Fuji X100F, having previously owned the original X100. While I have shot with the Leica M8, I cannot afford the luxury of the lenses, etc.. I currently also have in compact cameras a Sony RX100VI and a Panasonic LX100 (which has been replaced by Panasonic with the LX100II) The Leica D-Lux8 is basically, as far as I can tell, just a more expensive version of the Panasonic LX100II. One can save money by going with that over the Leica and still have a high-quality image. I fully get it that owning a Leica has a certain appeal, but in the end, what counts is the quality of the image, and a Panasonic with a Leica lens still hits the mark.

Thanks so much! You helped "cement" my decision. I ordered my x100vi in March and I'm still waiting but patience is required. I'm 62 and yes I also need a lighter camera to go alongside my Nikon system.
