Lyrics:
I’m looking for the upsides to these panic-attack nights
where I’m staying in, eating take-out food by TV light
And I’m trying to play the b-side to this awkward life of mine.
You could flip me over.
I’d sing a few lines about how
I’m so used to shooting myself in the kneecaps,
standing in the way of progress, or letting down my friends.

I’m nailing shards of hope together
to put something over my head.
You know here it’s always raining
and it happened again. It happened again.
She said, “I let this slide when we were younger.
You know you don’t have to write like this.
The whole world’s full of losers
If you get a chance to win; you should take it.”

I stood on the roof with Matt and Molly
I watched the gray slide off the city
It’s finally spring.
We rode our bikes over to 6th Street
to Washington Square Park
to see if the tides would turn for me,
and they did.

I’m nailing shards of hope together
to put something over my head.
You know here it’s always raining.
and it happened again. It happened again.
She said, “I let this slide when we were younger
You know you don’t have to write like this
The whole world’s full of losers
If you get a chance to win, you should take it.”

I left a lot of blood in California,
on our first trip out west.
I was younger and restless back then
and I thought, if no one’s in my corner
since everyone left
I’d better make it worth it.

I left a lot of blood in California,
on our first trip out west.
I was younger and restless back then
and I thought, if no one’s in my corner
since everyone left
I’d better make it worth it.

I left a lot of blood in California,
on our first trip out west.
I was younger and restless.

It’s hard to find the words to describe what this song meant to me ten years ago, and why it still stands as one of the songs I’ll keep close to my heart forever. I feel like TWY came to our generation at the right time, while many of us were still trying to figure out why we struggled so hard to be adults while the world was against us. We grew with this band, and they’ve always kept up these anthems that we can relate to. There will never be another band like this, and that’s okay. They’re exactly what we needed, when we needed it.

I always liked that Soupy always says that the tides DID turn for him whenever he performs this song live. Now it’s official.

I was 15 years in 2010, it was the first time I listen to The Upsides, since then this band never left my heart. It's funny cause I think that I grew up with you guys, in 2012 I had an open heart surgery and I almost died, it was really hard but it would be impossible without this band, every loss in the last ten years, everytime I was down on my knees, everytime I think that I couldn't make it you guys were there. God, i'm 25 now and I'm so thankful to be alive, I so thankful that I made it, thank you Soupy, Matt, Casey, Mike, Josh and Nick. I really hope you guys came back to Brazil some day, I can't put in words what that show in São Paulo in 2016 ment for me.

You guys never left, thank you for that.

This seems like a good place to leave this. I didn’t discover The Upsides until 2 years ago (I basically worked backwards by album from No Closer To Heaven) but it got me through that year being the hardest of my life. So thank you, TWY for everything you’ve done for me and so many others.

The fact that they still include the lyrics to this song in the description...like we all dont know them by heart already.

It just hits harder to hear him say "I was younger and restless back then" NOW and know he was even younger then

I can't word it properly. You know what I mean

I’ve always had a problem being by myself, I’ve never learned how to be alone, lonely car rides were the worst when every thought felt like it was screaming at me. Listening to The Wonder Years extensively now makes me feel like I’m not alone and that I can be my own best friend, I’ve never been so comforted and influenced by music in such a way. Thank you <3

Pure goosebumps when that chorus first hit. I’m glad that it’s official, the tides did turn eventually. Thank you to this wonderful band

I’m glad they’re finally acknowledging this album, other than I was scared. It’s weird hearing modern Soupy sing this song.
