Allotment Diary : No Dig Gardening Bed Preparation

Allotment Diary : No Dig Bed Preparation.
I started a kind of no dig approach a few years ago after seeing Charles Dowding and what amazing results he gets.
And ever since then I have had better crops myself without all the hard work of annually digging over the soil.
As you can see it's just a matter of removing any perennial weeds, skimming off any annual weeds and then simply adding as much organic matter or compost to the surface and let the worms do all the work.

Great to see you on the plot again Dan. I am getting going again this year after a couple of years off for health reasons so I'm scaling back a lot and concentrating on the greenhouse, some big tubs, and fruit trees.
Best Wishes, Brendan.

I have been “no dig” for about seven years now, my soil is heavy clay over chalk and it used to be like The Somme in winter and concrete with large cracks in summer - no more! I have Charles Dowding speak on two occasions and he is excellent and his results speak for themselves.

Cheers Dan, gone no Dig myself with all my new raised beds can't beat it even though I did enjoy digging, but it does ruin the soil structure, let the worms do the work.

♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.

Excellent, we pretty new to gardening. We bought compost, but in retrospect it wasn't very good and our garden suffered. We started making compost last year and it definitely made a difference. I'd like to give it a little boost this spring, maybe BFB, and the magnesium seems interesting.

I started my veg garden from sctratch using the no dig method. I was inspired by Charles Dowding and aided and abetted by my aching back lol. The great thing with no dig is that it just gets better year after year :-)
